The Waterside Campground is huge (close to 250 sites), although much of the park is reserved for seasonal (long-term) residents. There are, however, some premium sites along the river that are open for short-term campers. We reserved one of these in advance since we wanted a good site for our week-long stay. We arrived on a Monday in early October and nearly all the short-term sites were empty, that all changed by Friday when those filled up and many of the seasonal folks also pulled in.
The sites vary somewhat is size, separation, and shade. There are large trees throughout the park, but not much in way of vegetation to provide privacy. Our site was fairly level and each site has a picnic table and firepit. All sites are full hookup except the tenting sites – we had 30amp electric. There is a nice playground for the kids, the “Canal House” a camp store/office with a rec room, pool, boat launch, restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. The dumpsters are outside the gate and across the street. From the campground you can walk along the canal for quite a way and there is a short “river walk” in the campground.
In the summer it looks like they have scheduled activities, boat rentals, and canal boat rides. We were in the area to visit family so did not use any of the campground facilities.
We had 3 bars of Verizon 3G without a booster and managed 4 bars of 4G with the booster. There is free WiFi, but only at the Canal House. I had trouble with their website reservation system so called – during off season it can be hard to connect. The weekly rate was $300 for the waterfront sites, not sure what the daily rate would be for a shorter stay.

Got last minute reservations for Labor Day weekend. Mostly seasonal and year round sites but some nightly available. Very well kept campground, not too loud, clean. Nice office staff. Didn’t go in bathhouse or pool. Our site was directly on the river, easy to back in.
Definitely try calling last minute, there was an empty waterfront site all weekend, waiting for someone to snatch it up.
Rent pedal carts, tubes, canoes, kayaks, $6/hr.
T-Mobile was very good here, 2 bars but the download speed was amazing. Verizon has 2 bars but download speed was horrible.
