Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on June 16, 2022With a late Sunday arrival, we pulled into a lovely site backing up to the lake. The only bumps on the way in was learning where the water was to fill the fresh tank up with as the site only have Electric (Mostly 30A but I heard there are a few 50A's near the front of the park).
Early May and a weekday adventure has this State Park pretty quiet. ONLY ADVISORY - the sites are extremely close together (and some trees would make parking anything larger then 25' a challenge), so on the weekend I'm sure it's a bit chaotic.
The host (Joe) was really lovely, and the views are beautiful! Lots of geese and a few bugs to deal with, but that's camping folks!
Things of note:
* 20 minute drive to the nearest gas station
* Sites close to the lake are NOT level, so bring those leveler with (I learned from this trip to buy another 10 pack of Lynx!)
* AT&T Cell coverage is low but work-able, Verizon is spotty (Those are the two I carry)

We were camping in a tent and we went to the main campground at first to see if we could get a spot. The nice man at the office informed us that there was primitive tent camping just down the road if we preferred to pay $6 instead of $25. We went to the primitive sites and they were all very nice. We chose one by the water and had a great view when we woke up the next morning. There was no water hookup or electricity which we knew, but there was a bathroom right by the parking lot which was decent. Overall we had a good stay.

We stayed here at the recommendation of a friend who lives near the area. We were able to secure a stay for 5 nights even though it was Father's Day weekend. The camp hosts were very nice and check in was a breeze. These are electric only sites, so make sure you get your water tank filled before pulling into your site. The dump station is located near the park's main entrance. There is also another area for primitive tent sites. The site was spacious and very close to the showers and the playground. The sites are not all level, but it wasn't an issue for us. We have a 32 ft fifth wheel. We got set up and realized that the 30 amp plug was not working. We had an adapter for a 20 amp and had no issues. We informed the camp host the next day, and they were able to replace the breaker for the 30 amp. Turns out an ant infestation was the problem. There was a small pier nearby for fishing. There are plenty of hiking trails. The beach area is in another area of the park. The hours were a little strange for summer because they close the beach at 6pm. I had taken my kids to swim about 5pm because I didn't want them swimming in the heat of the day. I had asked the young man at the gate if there was a discount since it was only an hour before closing and also because I wasn't planning on swimming myself, but he said no. The fee is $2 per person and there is also no discount for staying at the park. That was a bummer. There is also a marina which rents out kayaks, canoes, etc. They also sell ice, firewood, and a few camping supplies. It also has a restaurant. We had a negative experience one evening when we were going to grab some dinner there. The park office indicated that the marina closed at dark. We got there at 6:45 which is still plenty of light out. The sign at the marina said they closed at 7pm! When we told the gentleman-who I assume was the owner-he said he didn't know of any such signage and reiterated that they closed at 7pm. He didn't seem like he wanted to serve us so close to closing, so we decided to leave and drove 15 min away to the town of Downs. The downside to our entire stay here was the cell and internet signal. It was basically non-existent. We would have stayed longer, but we needed service to do some work.

Shame on whoever is responsible for maintaining this campground.
It is totally neglected, and we are in shock at seeing campers here.
Maybe there's no other options in this area?
Bathroom near our site was the worst we've seen in the past 8 months of living full time in our camper. Pit toilet was filled with feces and household trash that people have thrown into it. Sites are dark, muddy, unlevel, and buggy. Weeds are growing in and around the sites so bad you can't tell where one site ends and another begins.
Everything in this campground needs replacing (tables, electric posts, gravel on sites, bathrooms, etc.).
Sorry to say this but we would not consider staying here again if it were free.
We've been robbed of $20, and we'll be gone at first light.

I have been here a couple of times and love the wide open and heavily shaded campsites. Well maintained a lot of activities for any outdoor enthusiast.

We were there on a Tuesday evening. Camp was maybe 15% full. Sites are well groomed but not super level. Took 4 block to level
Our van.
Periodical Cicadas were around and a bit noisy until the sun went down.
Light mosquitos, bug spray recommended.
Raccoons are well aware of the delicious things people leave out as we had a group approach our site while we were out at the table. The waddling cats came back after we went to bed and went through some stuff at our site.
The main shower house/bathroom was okay. The water was quite yellow with no signage explaining why. Showers are push button style but free.
There is 2 dump stations at the entrance to the park, and one at the exit of the campground. Both are well kept, fresh water available but we skip it due the urine yellow water.

We only stayed here for one night on May 15, 2022. We only used the water and electricity. Since it was raining we used our on-board facilities so we can't testify as to the condition of the wash-houses. The campground was clean for a Sunday night and the sites were freshly graveled and the roadways had been recently paved. Oh, and our campground hosts were terrific! The only negative is that there are very few water spigots that I could find but the water was clean and acceptable (when found). All in all, a terrific, short stay.

A beautiful overnight stop close to I 74. Great location next to Dawson Lake. Our site was unlevel but most looked fairly level. We had a tree canopy which was awesome for the heat! Good 30 amp service and water was available, just not at the site. Dump station available. Did not explore the park but looked like a great place for kayaking and biking. Very quiet!!

RV area was buggy and dumpy compared to the rest of the park. It smelled funny and wasn’t the lake. I did not stay.
