“604 acres of ravines and woods”
Twisting park and forest roads pass through 604 acres of deep ravines and dense woodlands. Scattered shortleaf and pitch pines growing on the ridges were once a source of pine tar for early settlers, hence the name Tar Hollow. No cell service. 30 amp electric, nice shaded paved sites, large with a small creek in the back. Did not use the shower house. Laundry was available as well as almost any basic camping essential in the camp store. We fished in Pine lake, there's a large beach area, mini golf and a really nice nature center. Down side is the lack of anything else to see or do in the area and some tight and twisting roads leading into the park.

The campsite we had was a little disappointing. Our camp site was a little small, very close to others and people’s voices carried a lot through valley we were in. Next time we will pick a different area as there were much better options. They have primitive spots and spots with electricity. Areas for water are pretty easy to find. Posts of nice shelter houses. Their are plenty of well lit bathrooms throughout the campground, most are vault toilets. They did have a very nice, clean shower house with very clean flushable toilets next to the shower house. The camp office store is open Friday through Sunday offering basic supplies, firewood, putt putt, peddle boat and bicycle rental and more. The beach area where they allow swimming was decent, a little small and didn’t allow you to swim very far from the shore.
No cell phone reception with verizon inside the park, but if you drive 10 mins out you can get full bars of LTE
There is 3 trails in the park. Ross Hollow, Logan and Homestead. We did Ross and Logan. Both are very hilly. The Logan trail gets up to 1700 ft in elevation very difficult at times. The Ross trail has a spilt when you first start and if you want an easier hike go left at the spilt. Highly suggest hiking boots if it recently rained as well.

I have been to Tar Hollow many times and loved it each time! The camp host has always been very helpful and nice each time I have visited. The showers are clean and well-maintained and the vault toilets...well...are vault toilets, but also well-maintained. Some of the sites are pretty worn down from use, but it I feel the staff do a good job keeping this place very nice for everyone year-round. As far as other activities outside the park there are none (at least without driving back toward Laurelville), but that is the draw for me. I live in central Ohio and leaving it behind for a few nights is magical! Overall, I LOVE this place!!!

Should have known when the neighbor was busy decorating his campsite with birthday stuff we were in trouble. Friday his entire clan showed up, guessing 6 or 8 trucks, parked us in. They were really loud most of the night. The fire pit was so close to our camper it set off our smoke detector, the site was super tight. Neighbors were still drinking at first light. It very significantly impacted our weekend
The bathroom was nice, good pressure and plenty of hot water.
Our site was asphalt and long enough for our truck and trailer.
The way the campground is situated, basically a clear cut up the side of a hill you are in full sun all day. With all of the giant 5th wheels there was zero breeze and the constant roar of AC units. Far to hot and suffocating to be outside for long.
There is zero cell signal and we could not pick up any over the air tv channels.

What reviewer sjones6321 wrote in 2019 is still true today. Ross Hollow sites are paved; Logan Hollow sites are not. The Logan Hollow sites could get muddy after an extended rain. All sites are well maintained. We were there mid-week so likely the campground was not so rowdy. All the staff we encountered were friendly and doing a bit extra to keep things nice. Our AT&T service had no signal except when we hiked the elevated sections of Ross and Logan trails. The longer Logan trail had recently been maintained but the section from the spillway to the fire tower was overgrown. Amy the naturalist said she'd send a crew that way. Amy has lots of kid/family oriented programs. Note state route 237 (between Londonderry and Tar Hollow Road) is scheduled to be closed so check before heading to the state park.
