“Home of the UNLV Rebels and the Las Vegas Bowl”

Sam Boyd Stadium is a football stadium located in Whitney, in the U.S. state of Nevada, an unincorporated community in the Las Vegas Valley; the mailing address of the stadium is "Las Vegas". The stadium is named after Sam Boyd, a major figure in the hotel/casino industry in Las Vegas. The stadium consists of an uncovered horseshoe-shaped single-decked bowl. Temporary seating is occasionally erected in the open north end zone as needed. The stadium is the home of the UNLV football team and the annual Las Vegas Bowl each December, and was the former home of the NASL's Las Vegas Quicksilvers, the CFL's Las Vegas Posse, the XFL's Las Vegas Outlaws and the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives. The stadium is also used for high school football championship games, and at times regular-season high school games for Bishop Gorman High School. The final race of the Monster Energy Supercross series is located here every year. Since 2010, it has hosted the USA Sevens leg of the annual IRB Sevens World Series in the sevens version of rugby union. The Las Vegas Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned Division I-A post-season college football bowl game that has been played annually at 40,000-seat Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. since 1992. From 1992 to 1996, matchups featured the champion teams from the Big West and Mid-American Conference. In 1997 and 1998, matchups featured a representative from the Western Athletic Conference and an at-large bid. In 1999 and 2000, match-ups featured a representative from the newly formed Mountain West Conference and an at-large bid. Since 2001, the game has featured a matchup of teams from the Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences. The Las Vegas Bowl gets the fifth-place Pac-12 team to meet its MWC opponent. Since 2006, the bowl gets first choice of Mountain West Conference teams. This would normally be the conference champion unless that team qualifies for the BCS (previously, the Mountain West Champion faced off against the Conference USA champion in the Liberty Bowl from the formation of the conference in 1998 until 2005, when the contract ran out).
