Grassy Pond Recreation Area

This is an Air Force recreation area on a good sized pond with a campground up the hill in the woods. They have cabins, picnic area including a large screened room, playground, boat rental and a poorly maintained campground. It has recently been opened to the public. We have used the campground many times in our trips to or from Florida but this time we were informed that the one night camping fee is $40/night for military, $55 for non military campers. Some camp sites not level, all are sand or dirt pads, electrical outlets in poor condition, cable didn’t work. Make sure you bring your wallet if you want to spend any time here; everything is for rent including $2.50 for daily rent of a frisbee, $8 for ice chest, $10 with ice. We can only surmise that they have lost all MWR funding or that they have transformed a once-nice military recreational facility into a profit center, that now appears to be out of the price range for young military families. I can no longer recommend this facility.
