“Made by US Army Corps of Engineers”
Overview Old Federal Campground lies on the eastern banks of Lake Lanier by the Chattahoochee Bay, in Northern Georgia. With more than 690 miles of shoreline and over 100 small islands to explore, campers are provided limitless recreation opportunities on the popular Lake Lanier. Natural Features: The reservoir was created in 1956 with the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River, and today spans 38,000 acres in the lush foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Recreation: Campers at Old Federal can swim at the beach, fish on the banks, and make use of the boat ramp for a day out on the water. Facilities: Of the 84 campsites, 59 have electric and water hookups. There are also seven walk-in sites for those who don't mind leaving their vehicles behind. Campers will find comfort in modern amenities such as hot showers and laundry facilities. Nearby Attractions: Visitors may want to explore nearby Sawnee Mountain Preserve for additional hiking opportunities and rock climbing.
This campground is very nicely maintained and clean. The beach areas are very nice, and the playground is fun for the kids. The bathrooms were in good order the entire time, morning, noon and night, although there are not many bathrooms. We were fairly close to them, but it was still a slight walk.
Some of the sites are shaded, but some are full sun, so be prepared to provide your own shade with an awning or canopy.
$20 for a walk-up tent site
