“a land of stunning beauty, remote & unimpaired”

Remote and unimpaired Lake Clark National Park is a land of stunning beauty where volcanoes steam, salmon run, bears forage, craggy mountains reflect in shimmering turquoise lakes, and local people and culture still depend on the land and water of their home.  Solitude is found around every bend in the river and shoulder of a mountain.  Venture into the park to become part of the wilderness. Commercial fishermen on Lake Clark and Lake Iliamna in the early part of the 20th century used "double-ender" sailboats until engines were permitted in the 1950s. A restored double ender is on display at the Port Alsworth Visitors Center. Your visit to Lake Clark National Park and Preserve might include a quiet moment watching coastal Alaskan brown bears graze on the protein rich sedges at Silver Salmon Creek or Chinitna Bay. It could include a visit to Dick Proenneke's historic cabin on upper Twin Lake. Or maybe your visit will be a rigorous backpacking trip with friends over tundra slopes and past turquoise lakes.
