Museum complex includes agricultural building; factory/bank; country school; church; machine shed and blacksmith shop; along with two-story museum building and the locker building. Come enjoy many of Iowa’s smaller museums and local attractions, which is unfortunate, because it is impossible to see and do everything one would wish in such a short span of months. If you are like me and must pick and choose judiciously among Iowa’s many offerings, don’t overlook the Kellogg Historical Museum in Jasper County. Kellogg Historical MuseumRestored school, church, and bank.Originally named Jasper City, the village of Kellogg was founded in September of 1865; the railroad arriving a few months later in 1866. Never much larger than it is to day, it remained essentially a farming community whose main employer was the Midwest-one Minute Factory, a manufacturer of washing machines and later flywheel ring gear units. A fire in 1908 destroyed much of the downtown area; today’s buildings date mostly to 1909 or later. Like so many small Iowa towns, Kellogg has struggled to maintain its identity as businesses have closed and the local school consolidated with Newton in 1957.
