“Where Ralph learned to make an engine sing”
***The former site of Eddleman's is now a separate business. Please abide by the property owner's wishes and do not trespass. *** Eddleman's Garage was the engine shop where Ralph Earnhardt perfected the Ford engine while fixing cars for moonshiners like Junior Johnson in the 1940s. Eddleman's crew tested the top of the line Fords -- a 1940 Ford with a Cadillac V8 engine and three carburetors -- by racing them down a measured "Flying Mile" on Highway 29. Once, Ralph hit 120 miles an hour in 30 seconds, a true feat at the time.
