“Honoring a fallen NASCAR hero”
Dale Earnhardt Blvd. is a portion of North Carolina Highway 3, which is numbered after Dale himself. The highway runs from Earnhardt's birthplace of Kannapolis to downtown Mooresville. Dale Earnhardt Boulevard was dedicated in 1992, well before Dale's tragic death, but the highway wasn't re-designated as NC 3 until 2002. When Exit 60 opened off of I-85 in 1992, friends, family and fans turned out to witness the dedication of the road named after everyone's favorite NASCAR driver. Today, Dale Earnhardt Blvd. is a major thoroughfare and a constant reminder of Dale's legacy.
