Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on September 13, 2023The campground itself was very clean and well kept and the campground hosts were helpful and friendly. There was easy access to the lake via paved walking trails or just walking along the shoreline. The sites were quite level and fire rings well placed, also a sweet little cove very near our campsite. The free showers were certainly much nicer than our camper!!!

Cute campground alongside Angostura. Our site was in the middle and really gave us no privacy. Our site also had quite an issue with ants. Quite often we had people and children walking in our campsite, which made our dogs extremely anxious. There were a couple sites that looked a bit more private we would be willing to check our again. There is only power hookups, fire ring and picnic table. There are bathrooms available with two showers, no charge. Very close to Hot Springs which has some great attractions. You will need a state park pass for Custer.

The Camp Hosts made our experience at the Horsehead loop wonderful - super friendly and helpful. The pros:
* The sites were level and approx 40-50 ft away from your neighbor;
* There were some mature trees to help provide shade if you wanted to sit out;
* Only electric provided but dump and water provided at the park entrance;
* Close to Hot Springs so easy to get to town if needed (approx 10 -15 miles);
* Showers always had warm water, good pressure and always clean!
* good bike path for cycling miles and miles;
* beach area is accessible;
* The camp hosts were super! Too bad for us as consumers that they are retiring but good for them!
The cons:
* the bugs were really a factor, lots of mosquitoes and tiniest bugs by the thousands;
* Connectivity was great in the early mornings but really slow download speed during the day, at least on Sunday.

Large spaces, electric only, 5 bars of Verizon 4G Service made for a nice stay. Sandy swimming beach with restrooms near Cascade CG. Paved bike path runs the length of the park.
Due to COVID, we didn’t use the free showers & restrooms at CG.
Park entrance fees in addition to campsite fees. For 4 days, made sense to get annual passes 1 for coach & 1/2 off 2nd for car =$56. Worth it to hit other SD parks this year.

Arrived in the afternoon it was relatively quiet hot much busier in the evening
The sunset was stunning.
Found the showers by the entrance filthy and could not get the hot water to go.
Resorted to a camper shower.
My partner said the gents showers were ok.

There are 4 campgrounds at Angostura State Park. We thought Horsehead was the best. The sites are larger in Horsehead though there are less trees than Cheyenne or Cascade. With a 41 ft 5th wheel I didn’t want thick tree cover. The lake is beautiful and has a long beach. There is also a long bike trail that connects all of the campgrounds. There are 2 dump stations. One outside of Horsehead, one outside of Cheyenne. I don’t mind driving so the 30 minutes to Custer SP or 70 minutes to Mt Rushmore weren’t an issue. TMobile had 4 bars. The campground is quiet... Less than 20% full during the week.
