We only spent one night at this campground while passing through the area. In late September, we had our choice of first come lake spots on the weekend. The entrance station was closed at this time of year and all reservations had to be made online or by calling a 1800#.
This campground is a couple miles from the entrance station but has sites right on the water. All sites in Cascade campground have electric. For those sites not on the water, you can easily walk to the lake between the lakeside campsites. Sites are quite large although there is not a lot of vegetation between sites for privacy.
Showers and toilets are well-kept. Campground is clean. Easy in and out dump station. Verizon and ATT both have great service here without a booster.
The only downside to this campground is that it is quite a drive to area attractions. It's about 50 miles to Rapid City and 40 to Custer State Park but if you're looking for a place to decompress and relax by the lake after taking in all the attractions of the Black Hills, it's the perfect spot.
(Note: We did look at staying here in July on a weekend and there were same day spots available even in high season.)

Camped 10/13/18 (Sat). Campground is a bit of a drive in, but very scenic. Our stop was only for one night and unfortunately, it was snowing, so we couldn't enjoy this place to the fullest had we been here longer & in better weather. A lot to offer here with multiple campgrounds (lakeside sites), paved bike trails, hiking, boat ramp, boat rentals, picnic areas, beach, fishing, a fish cleaning station, cabins, and a restaurant at the beach with open wifi (we were able to pick it up outside in the parking lot).
Campground is treed, but not overly so. Clean and quiet; not a lot of privacy, but sites are good sized and most seemed level. There are two shower houses, but only one was open at this time of year. They had provided space heaters in both bathrooms. Shower house had 2 shower stalls, foaming hand soap, hand dryers and were handicapped accessible. I think there was a VT in the campground as well.
We reserved our electric site online, and in addition to the $21/night fee, there was a $7.70 non-resident fee.

We were moved here from Cheyanne Campground to fill out our stay. The campground is pretty flat and sites were fairly level. These are 50/30/20 amp electric only sites with fire/grill pit and a picnic table. The sites are good size in length. Lots of space between sites. there are sites right on the lake. Clean campground. We did not use any of the facilities. they looked to be cleaned regularly. Nice staff and volunteers.

Wow, just wow! The only downside is that it's electric only, so come prepared. Otherwise, this is the best campground ever. We stayed in site 48. It was level with almost no adjustment. There is a lot of space between sites, and ours has a private yard because it's at the end of the loop. Some have better water access...we had to walk down a short path to get to the water...but no issues there. In addition to the campground being wonderful, there are miles and miles of paved trails for walking, running, or in our case biking. As soon as we drove in, we tried to extend our stay, but all campgrounds in the recreation area were full for the weekend. Make your reservations early. We loved everything about our stay.

We love this campground! Very clean, flat parking pads, lots of personal space between sites. 14 mile Walking/bike trail is easily accessible from campground. Plenty of beach access from campground, public beach less than a 1/2 mile. Cell coverage is good. Most sites have a shaded spots.

Stopped through on our way from Nebraska on our way to Colorado. The Cascade loop has good sized spots, close to the water and paved trail. Lots of good sites with trees. We stayed in 71 which is a pull through and has lots of space. There was firewood for sale by the host sites and at the entrance. Didn’t stay long enough to do too much but would definitely come back for longer.
Only downside was the showers are pretty aggressive (spray is hard and very dispersed) and the shower rooms were wet everywhere. Bathrooms are modern but not large for the number of sites (women’s had 2 stalls, men’s had 1 urinal, 1 stall).

A very nice state park campground with great access for fishing, hiking, and biking. We took advantage of this location to access the George S Mickelson Bicycle Trail's southern portions which we had been wanting to ride. Access was via a trailhead 12 miles west of Hot Springs SD. The CG was full on the weekend but pretty empty during the week. Nice restroom/shower facilities, electric only at each site. Hot Springs is about 15 minutes north, so access to dining out, fuel, and groceries is good too.

Great site layout with ample space between site.. gravel sites with electric only. Wish there was better access to the water. Watch out for the poison ivy. It is everywhere.
