“1.8 million acres in central Arkansas”
The Ouachita National Forest covers 1.8 million acres in central Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma. Headquartered in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the forest is managed for multiple uses, including timber and wood production, watershed protection and improvement, habitat for wildlife and fish species (including threatened and endangered ones), wilderness area management, minerals leasing, and outdoor recreation.
You can enjoy a lot of hiking trails here as well as driving and walking paths. The views are also spectacular and you will definitely enjoy it here. Such refreshing and wonderful environment. There are also campsites in various locations you can camp in with your friends or family. Also, if you are star gazing, the area is just too perfect since the sky is clear, you will enjoy the view of thousands of beautiful and sparkly little stars shining on the black night sky.
There are also a lot of beautiful wildlife creatures you can watch here. Birds, squirrels, deer, raccoon and etc. It's really a must visit place!
We drove through Ouachita on a big off-road trip from Tennessee to Oklahoma along the Trans America Trail last year, and it was probably the best part of the whole trip. We drove amazing forest trails, with only the occasional logging tuck passing us high up in the mountains, where the views were epic. As we came down to the west we found lot's of great ATV trails alongside creeks and such that allowed us some serious muddy fun in our Jeep. Would love to go back and camp for like a week.
