“Carved from 1,100 tons of coral rock”
Coral Castle is a stone structure created by the Latvian American Edward Leedskalnin (1887–1951) North of the city of Homestead, Florida in Miami-Dade County at the intersection of South Dixie Highway (U.S. 1) and SW 157th Avenue. The structure comprises numerous megalithic stones (mostly limestone formed from coral), each weighing several tons. Ed was giving tours of his castle since the 1923. Coral Castle is famous for legends surrounding its creation: levitation energy and the mystery of how the perfection of corners and completely plumb structures without lasers or cranes. Is it from reverse magnetism and/or supernatural abilities to move numerous stones weighing many tons and carving over 30 structural elements in perfection?
Glad I finally had the opportunity to see this. While the admission is a little steep (especially of you have the whole family), it's worth checking out...very unique!
A must see for those who enjoy the oddities in this world. Actually, i think most people would enjoy it, as it has a fascinating story behind it and is quite unique. I can see where the admission price might be steep for a large family on a vacation budget.
The tour guides add exponentially to the appeal of this place. Just looking at stone, you can't tell what is really so special about it, but once they start telling you about the little 5'0" 100lb guy who poured his broken heart into this place, you get it! We had a rough time in the parking lot trying to communicate with the parking attendant (who didn't speak very good /any English) & my mother was ready to just leave. Once we got in and they started showing us the different features of the place even she was impressed. Masons and Eastern stars will we recognize several meaningful symbols here. It was the hottest part of the day when we went, please don't make that mistake! We had our own bottled water, but one in our party had to stay in the shaded area due to the heat and missed being up close to several parts of the tour.
guy who builded that was crazy, but the castle IS impressive!
You have to take a 45 minute tour— and it was $38.50 for 2 people.
Wow! So glad we went to see this. A must to go to. Such an interesting place. We brought our small dog who was welcomed also. The guide we had (Willy) was knowledgeable and added his own theatrical spin on Coral Castle. Lastly, don’t be afraid of any car break in’s as they have a security guard monitoring every car or person coming in.
DO NOT GO. Our car was broken into along with 3 others in the parking lot. Windows smashed and car was looted. They would not review the security cameras and acted very shady towards us. The whole place gave off a bad vibe. Would not recommend.
We loved this place. If you monitor your children closely, it can be fun for them also
I wasn’t real sure what this place was before going. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised! It’s very interesting to see and hear about how Edward was able to move these enormous rocks.
The price range isn't correct, it should be $$. $15 per person.
