“Hilton Head's best known landmark”
The Island’s best known and best loved landmark, the Harbour Town Lighthouse has been welcoming visitors to Hilton Head for over four decades. Just over four decades old, the red-and-white-striped Harbour Town Lighthouse serves not only as a beacon to the many ships that reside in our Yacht Basin but also as a landmark that has come to symbolize Hilton Head Island to people all over the world. With the addition of the Lighthouse Legends Tour in 2001, we were able to transform this icon into an informative, educational, and fun experience for all! In addition to the historical lighthouse tour, we proudly offer one of the most unique gift shops on Hilton Head Island, featuring one the largest collections about lighthouses in America. Not only are we a beacon for travelers, we are also a beacon for charity! In order to thank the community that has supported us for so long, we annually donate a portion of all admission fees to various local charities – past few years we donated over $62,000.
Wonderful place to visit with family. The marina is on the Sea pines resort which is a very natural and walkable area. Lots of places for nature hikes, bike rides, and beautiful Spanish moss picture taking. If I were to visit Hilton Head again I would definitely stay at Sea Pines again, near the marina. Worked out to be a terrific location.
The parking lot was full, and we couldn't park to go up in the lighthouse. There is a fee to go to the top of the lighthouse. I couldn't believe how busy it was for a cold, Spring day. It had rained right before we got there. I didn't like how it was near shops and eateries. It felt very commercialized and touristy, not in a natural setting like most lighthouses. You had to pay to get on Hilton Head, drive around the island, and leave the island (I believe total was $10.50.) We were not impressed. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to get here. Was one of our least favorite part of our trips. We liked Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Virginia Beach more.
Be aware that it's $6 to drive on the road to get to the lighthouse, and then there is no parking once you get there. Once you make it to the lighthouse you realize it's really just a gift shop with a 4.25 per person fee to walk to the top. Was very disappointed.
If you're looking to visit the lighthouse, know that it's developed all around and nothing like what most would consider a traditional lighthouse.
