We drive to Hendersonville annually to visit family and for the last four years or so we make the gem mine a family trip. They have over the last year or two expanded and have even more space and a covered/indoor space so it can even be a rainy day activity. We usually get the economical bucket, but today because we had so many cousins we got a medium sized bucket and we had a huge geode, sapphires, emeralds... It was so much fun. The mining is fun, getting gems to take home is great, we fed goats and overused the store. Also, the fellow that helped us cut our geode and identify our rocks (I think his name was Bill?) was beyond awesome with the kids. A great experience!!
Fun for the kids. Buy the small buckets it will save money and they are plenty of gems in the smaller ones.
They close at 6pm now. My whole family enjoyed the experience. We got the $60 bucket and 3 of us sifted for about 30 min. We also like that it was a learning experience with descriptions and locations of where they are found. You can take a picnic and go down and play in the river.
Joe helped me get some great gems. Very friendly staff. Told me about each stone. Loved it !
It was great! We found a lot of rocks and gems and the owners were great!
So much fun! Glad we stopped!
Fun activity for the kids. It’s a funny little place but in a good way. They help identify the stones and minerals after you uncover them, which is nice.
The selection of the gems inside of the buckets were amazing. The store overall has fantastic choices of all type of specimens and are very well priced. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The animals are sweet and they are dog friendly. The do also have a %10 military discount. If you are looking for a quick little destination and love crystals, fossils, gems, and more, I highly suggest this place.
They are open until 6pm. My whole family enjoyed this outing. We got the $60 bucket and 3 of us spent about 30 min sifting. All over the store is a learning experience with descriptions and locations. You can take a picnic and eat by the river.
