Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on October 20, 2021Initially we had a reservation at this camping loop not knowing it is for seasonal campers, but they rent sites that are available to shorter stays.
This area has been upgraded like the Gibson Cove Loop, but our site was not. It was very sloped towards the lake and uneven. Our view was a bit of lake and mainly the side of a large camper. We were very close to other trailers and this would be true of most sites that border the lake. Sites high on the hill away from the lake, still have a lake view, but are not as close together. Most sites are heavily treed except for the ones on the flat and very close to the water - no trees and faces west for the hot afternoon sun.
We could hear noise from this campground from across the cove over the weekend, since there tends to be many people at each trailer.
The hosts were very accommodating in letting us move over to Gibson Cove. So we can’t speak to the other aspects of the campground.
In the day use area was a lovely tenting area with trees, tent platforms and lake views as well as a bathhouse.

Beautiful mountain views and great fall foliage in lat October. Gibson Cove was well spaced, lakefront has more of an unobstructed view but the interior has a large back yard. Bath house at Gibson Cove was rough. Clean, but old. Water went out midday for a few hours, unexpectedly. Wifi was strong and allowed for Zoom work calls with ease.

I enjoyed my stay at Clay County. I was not directly on the lake which I think provided a little more privacy. I noticed several seasonal and may be permanent sites.
The Chatuge Dam trail is right next to the campground very easy access
Reservations on Reserve America was great but there's not really anybody you can talk to.
The bathrooms need a little love and I didn't take a shower but the sink water was not heated and the bathroom was not heated. Toilets a little small.
Close to Ingles super market
Only four stars because the bathrooms need an upgrade they're not heated and the sink water was cold

The road into the camping area was gravel and needed a little touch up. Now we were there at the end of the season which could make a difference. There are a number of seasonal RVers with we'll say a whole bunch of "stuff" outside. The sites are wooded, not particularly level and have good separation. They are really big on speed bumps for some reason. The bath house is a little dated. The only hot water is in the shower and that wasn't really hot. If I had a choice I would pick Gibson Cove Campground which is right next door. Asphalt roads, level sites, less tree cover, better dump station and a few dollars more, if you can get in.
