“A British themed cafe”
We offer a great new selection of Anglo-American cuisine to all local residents and visitors to Hardy, AR, including our signature dishes of cod and chips and some homemade Cornish Pasties. We serve breakfast all day and also a special Sunday lunch. We have a small shop on the premises, with some unique gifts and souvenirs inkeeping with the British theme. The name of the cafe originates from long ago in 'Merrie Olde' England, where the Pig 'n Whistle was a tavern sign, derived from "Piggen Wassail", meaning "Good Health. A pig and whistle was used on a sign, as many people could not read at that time. The pig represented meat or food in general, and also a drinking cup. Whistle is referred to in early Anglo-Saxon as the mouth or throat. Hence the expression "wet your whistle". Today the name of this cafe is not only down to this old English reference, but was chosen with the 'pig' representing the Arkansas Razorback and the 'whistle' representing the trains that can be heard from the nearby railroad. We are now able to provide a nice selection of beer and wine to our members to consume with their food here at Pig 'n Whistle
We love this place! Every time we visit our summer cabin we're sure to stop in!
