There are campgrounds at Spencer Bay (35 sites) and Cowan Cove (18 sites) and a big gravel lot at Spencer Pond with fire rings. I never made it to Cowan, but the Spencer Bay campground had fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, and a (small) boat ramp. I've added these sites and will leave reviews there later, if I remember. There are a lot of other campsites and plenty of places to boondock all around the lake, and there's an "over-nite" parking lot in town near the Greenville Junction Boat Launch (on Depot Street just off Rt 6) that we stayed in for two nights without trouble. Pick up a map at the information center outside of Greenville or find the pdf version from the Maine.gov website.
I'm leaving a 5 star review here just for the area. Moosehead is amazing and Greenville is a decent little base of operations. There was some trash in places, especially the Spencer Pond lot, but I've seen a lot worse and Spencer Bay Campground was maintained very well by the volunteers. There's also logging, but it seems pretty low key.

Has a hey turn around, establish fire rings, picnic tables, and a pit toilet. Two spots at the end right on the water but it does get windy. A total of five spots. If you like fishing or canoeing this place is perfect. Starlink worked well AT&T Internet did not.

Make sure you use the google maps on Campendium to get here. It’s beautiful. When we arrived mid-day they were cutting the grass and taking care of the grounds. There are 5 established campsites and a vault toilet. Most have a picnic table. 3 have gravel areas. All have a fire ring. Right on the water. Mosquitos were horrible at dark. Next time I’ll bring a screen tent, but otherwise it was great. Fishing was good. Love it here!
The road coming back was really good until just before the sites when it got a little rough. We saw some other people come through and look at the water before moving on in a small car. So it’s manageable for sure!
We tent camp so no comment on rv’s.

Love this place! Not only is it free, but the view is breathtaking, picnic tables, and even has a pit toilet (bring tp) there are two spots that are right on the water (it very windy, so wouldn’t suggest a tent setup there) There are 5 spots. You can stay for free for 14 days. It takes a while to get to a town/gas, so get everything before settling in. If you go to Lazy Tom River during dawn or dusk the chances of seeing a moose are high.
