“located in the whale watching capital of the world!”
Cape Ann Camp Site is located 30 miles northeast of Boston in the historic city of Gloucester. Established in 1949, Cape Ann Camp Site is a family owned and operated business built on the knowledge that the vacation is only as good as its destination — and you really can’t get any better than this small fishing village on the coast of Massachusetts. Gloucester, the jewel of Cape Ann, is both America’s Fishing Port and the Whale Watch Capital of the World. Avid historians and weary vacationers are equally charmed by its antiquity and its beauty. If sun-bathing on one of our many white-sand beaches wears you out, visit beautiful Rockport for a day of shopping or take a boat trip around the harbor. If you have a few days, hunt for buried treasures in the local antique shops or take the kids to Salem for a good old-fashioned witch trial. Gloucester offers a number of fun and educational attractions and Cape Ann Camp Site is in the center of it all. nlike many campgrounds in business today, Cape Ann Camp Site was established around nature, not over it. Therefore, each of its 200 sites are unique. Whether you have an RV and would like a full hookup site with a water view or you have a simple tent and love the shade, Cape Ann Camp Site has a spot for you and your family. Every site comes with a ready-made fireplace and picnic table. We also have six toilet and shower buildings, and a small campsite store stocked with ice and wood. We now also offer a centrally located Wi-Fi signal and Wi-Fi on big rig spots for Internet connectivity.

Electrical box had 30 amp outlet upside down and we were unable to plug in. Had to use the neighbors 30 amp and he used our 50 amp. They were at the back of the site and our 50 amp cord wouldn’t reach so we used our 30 amp extension.
Glad we only stayed one night. We’ve camped in over 100 campgrounds across the country and this was the worst so far.
This a decent campgrounds. Very old and seems like it’s poorly maintained. I tried to hook up to the WiFi and it is non-existent!!! I called the main desk and they define “WiFi available” as in the office. It is NOT available at the campsites! Don’t be fooled.
Interior roads are both paved and dirt. the "upper" portion is water/electric only with dump station and multiple bath houses available. The sites are all crafted on the mountain side. The power was good as was the water. Most sites are spacious but not private as there is no shrubbery separating sites.
Bath houses are old, cleaned and restocked daily. Toilet stalls are just that, toilet. Same with showers. Hand washing sinks are separate. Reminded me of scout camp many many years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Staff was awesome. The nice ladies in the office gave us a map with 4 sites hi-lited and said go pick the one you want and come back and let us know which one you want. Lots of info about local sites of interest was shared with us. We just felt very welcomed.
Big rig access is in the lower campground area and it is flat but pretty close together.

Stayed here for one night on a quick trip to Cape Ann. While we did not spend a lot of time at the campsite, I can say you get what you pay for in terms of a basic no frills campsite. (Which is what I really want.) The lots at the top are nice and wooded. They were level as well. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring. My only complaint is that the water hook up was far away… I mean really far away. We would have had to go out and buy a hose to make it work. Since we only stayed a day, we “boondocked”.
I’d go back again, with a longer hose, or a better understanding of where the hookups are close to the site.

This campground is getting four stars mostly because I love the surrounding area. It's not a terrible campground by any means, but it has a really strange layout of sites that offer very little in the way of privacy or ease of access. It's also a bit overpriced with a base fee of $32, $8 per night extra for electric, and another $10 extra per night for sewer. That's $50 night for a full hook-up site that will most likely be tucked between a tree and your neighbors slide out.
The good side? The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. We asked for a site that was open so we could use our solar panels (and save $8/night). All of the sites with no hook-ups are fairly shady so they gave us a site with electric but didn't charge us since we didn't need to use it. Very nice. Also, upon check-in we were given the full run down of what to do in the area including where to go to the grocery store and the best place to do laundry.
The very best thing about this park is the location. Only 1 mile from the beach, even closer to a boat launch site, a 10 minute drive to Gloucester, and a 15 minute drive to Rockport. We spent a lot of time in both towns and really love this area.

Most RV parks in the greater Boston area close for the season after Columbus Day. Luckily, when I called Camp Ann Camp Site the owner said they closed the bathroom facilities as of Oct 15, but as long as we were ok using our RV for that he’d let us stay up to Nov 1st. We stayed in site 7 on the lower “big rig” section that offered full hookups. Pretty view overlooking the tidal river. The best part was the camp owner and ALL of his amazing suggestions from getting a 3-4 lb lobster from Roy Moore’s Lobster Shack in Rockport to the Haddock chowder at the Causeway in Gloucester Harbor. Full of knowledge for Boston and surrounding towns. Would highly recommend!

Almost made me want to get a tent. The upper areas were absolutely beautiful. The tents had it great. However, we have a 40’. The road getting to the campground was narrow and winding. You don’t want to meet up with someone coming around a curve. Larger rigs stay in bottom lot and you have to have experience to back in. Our site was right on the road and it was a bit noisy at times. Also since it is the exit there was constantly cars coming and going. There are a few sites in the lower lot that are pretty and a bit higher but the road is steep. Not many options in the area so would stay again if need be but perhaps look for another town.

Had a great time. Beautiful location. Eileen helped find the perfect site, gave great advice, made sure we backed in on and checked on us later. She knows how to run a business and keep customers returning.

Dates: June 9 - 16. This campground was interesting. Overall we really enjoyed it but it was a bit odd. It is built up into a big hill so maneuvering is very very difficult (especially in a big rig). They did not have dog park (despite having a few places to put it). Our site did not have sewer hookups but we were close to the dump station. They also did not have laundry facilities. I would give them one less star but we did really just have a very enjoyable stay other things notwithstanding. Verizon signal was great at our spot but as soon as you go up the hill it did get worse.

The park was easy to find. It is located about five miles from down town Gloucester. There is pavement all the way. Signage is adequate. Arriving at the park was challenging. The office is a way inside the campground but motor homes with a towed must disconnect right at the entrance which blocks in and out traffic. Check in was efficient, informative and friendly. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are paved but very very rough. The road up the hill is narrow and winding and the signage for the loops is not that great but doable without too much difficulty.
Our site, 167E, was a pull through that was just long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp and water only) were to the left side but the water faucet was a long way from the site. We carry extra hoses so not a big deal to us. Distancing is a bit close for a rural park. Each site has a table and a fire pit. Our site was pretty lumpy and sloped to the right (down hill) but we were able to position our rig so that we were fairly level. Overall the park was not bad. It was quiet and relaxing.
The park included wifi was surprisingly strong even though the park is quite heavily forested. There is no cable TV but we were able to find a few OTA channels. Satellite might be difficult. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them dated but clean.
There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be an okay base to use while visiting the nearby attractions. We paid $52.00 per night and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in the area again.
