“outdoor amphitheater and indoor interpretive center”
The Blue Ridge Music Center is open seasonally, May through October. The Blue Ridge Music Center celebrates the music and musicians of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Established by the U.S. Congress in 1995, the site includes an outdoor amphitheater and indoor interpretive center used to highlight an important strand of American musical culture, which is still alive and thriving in the region. The site is operated through a partnership between the National Park Service and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. In the summer, its beautiful outdoor amphitheater comes alive through a vibrant and diverse concert series featuring artists like Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal, Rickey Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, The Kruger Brothers, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Sherman Holmes Project and John Dee Holeman. There is an admission charge for the weekend concerts (generally held on Saturday evenings with admission $10, $15, or $20). The Music Center's award-winning, interactive Roots of American Music Museum - open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - and the Midday Mountain Music Program, which offers informal, mountain music performances by local and regional old-time and bluegrass musicians on the Music Center's covered breezway - daily from noon until 4 p.m. - are both FREE and open to the public. About the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation: Since 2013, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has funded the concert programming at the Blue Ridge Music Center in keeping with the nonprofit’s mission to ensure cultural and historical preservation, along with natural resource protection, educational outreach, and visitor enjoyment now and for future generations.
