Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on September 20, 2020My family stayed here for 5 days the beginning of April 2018. The woman who took our reservation was very nice. We got a sound front site and the park was less than half full. The site we reserved did not have a sewer hookup I could find although one of our neighbors that arrived later had to dig his out. Their sound front road was washed completely out which left one way in and out of the sound front sites which was tight.
Pros:
Beautiful sound front location with awesome sunset
The bathhouse was kept very clean during our stay
They were working on laying sod and some remodeling
Cons:
No WiFi anywhere during our stay. We had a good cell signal so it was manageable.
Only one bathhouse open. The one closest to our site was closed for renovations. Had I known this I’d have selected a different site as I have small children.
No security, people came to windsurf daily who were not campers and used any empty site to park their work vans and setup gear.
Playground was one swing, one broken swing, and a platform I assume used to have a slide. Kind of a let down with small kids.
One passable road to the sound front premium sites. The roads are so tight here I’d hate to even try in peak season.

The campground and facilities are great we would definitely camp here again — just make sure you don’t need any help from the office staff because they are all very rude - short and snippy and unhelpful as if they’re irritated to have to help you ( and this is all 3 of the people I dealt with not just 1) also, make sure if you are eligible for any discounts you don’t forget to say something up front ( like I did) because when you go back and ask they’ll definitely tell you Tough luck.
5 stars campground and facilities 0 for customer service.

First time in the RV side and it did not disappoint. Great sunsets and not crowded this time of the year. WIFI is sketchy but who needs it when you’re supposed to be relaxing? Staff is phenomenal! And the bathrooms are super clean.

Very nice campground with a mix of primitive tent sites, RV sites with hookups and cabins. I did not notice any full time/seasonal campers.
All of the sites are grass and most appeared to be fairly level. They were laying new sod throughout the campground while I was there. The campground is very clean and well maintained. Most, but not all sites have some shade from trees.
The RV sites have a decent amount of space but no buffer of any kind between most of them them. You're not packed in like sardines, but you will be staring at the side of your neighbors rig unless you're lucky enough (like I was for 2 of my 4 days) to not have a neighbor on your door side. Some areas towards the inner part of the campground seemed to have a huge grass area in front or behind the campsites. If possible you might want to scope out the campground before choosing your site. There is a huge variety.
I stayed in site B10 which was on a little peninsula on the sound. It was a little tricky to get my rig turned around in that spot, but once I did the view was excellent!
I stayed here in mid May and the weather was perfect. I only had to run the AC for a short time on two days and I was able to sleep with the windows open every night.
If you are into kite-boarding or wind-surfing this campground is perfect. There are several spots to enter/exit the water and the water stays very shallow very far out into the sound, several hundred yards. On days when there is no wind, it's perfect for paddle-boarding.
The campground is a 10-15 minute drive from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, which is where I spent a lot of my time surfing.
There is a small store on site with groceries and camping supplies. The staff was very friendly.
There is a tavern/restaurant right at the entrance to the campground too with a decent menu and a full bar. Easily within walking (or crawling) distance :)
In general, I thought this place was really nice and the price was great for the location and full hookups. I would definitely camp here again.

Late Nov. Camping trip so not very busy. The Campground closes at the end of November. Great site right on the water. We were able to launch our Kayaks right from the site itself and there is a boat ramp if you have need of it. Many of sites are full hookup, we paid for this as we wanted this particular spot, but didn't use anything other than electric. We are pretty self contained, but the first night was pretty windy and we didn't know if the gas would blow out, so we hooked up There were some ground issues with the hook up, but we have a Watchguard so not harm. Sites are pretty close together, so not sure how it would be in peak season, but was awesome for us. Good bathroom and laundry facilities. Each site has a picnic table No fire rings as ground fires aren't permitted, but if you can bring a raised fire pit you are good to go. Wifi worked well with a few different networks available. The Campstore seemed well equipped and the staff were very nice. We were offered AARP and Good Sam discounts, we don't have either though FYI. they will not be Good Sam 2022

Let me start with the positive . . . The location on the Sound is amazing. Beautiful views and incredible access to the water.
Unfortunately, while we were there, a sustained wind event moved in and a coastal flood warning was issued for the next 4 days. We had a site on the Sound and were worried about the road in front of our site flooding as well as flooding on Hwy 12. We contacted the office and were told we had nothing to worry about and no refunds were available. When we awoke in the morning, the road in front of our site was covered in water from the Sound. We decided to cut our losses and leave. We are so thankful we did. That was just the first day of wind. The next day Hwy 12 was completely closed for several days. We would have been stuck on our flooded site and forced to pay for extra nights. We understand the owner cannot control the weather, but some compassion and honest advice would have been much appreciated. Just know, if there is a weather event and you have a site on the Sound, it will flood.
Also know that the wifi doesn't work throughout the campground. The owner knows and doesn't care. The wifi on the porch is amazing but it will not work on your site. I totally understand the difficult logistics. I just wish they were more honest about this when booking. The website should say, "Wifi access available at office," and not advertise wifi as part of the site amenities.
Additionally, the bath houses were not very clean. Both the men's and women's in the front and back needed cleaning several days in a row. The roads are also pretty rough and full of potholes. After experiencing the flooding, I completely understand why.
But again, the views and access to the Sound are incredible.

Frisco Woods is a campground I’ve been wanting to stay at and so glad we did. The owners have done some significant updates so don’t let old reviews dissuade you from staying here. Being on the sound side you are protected from the constant winds like you’ll have on the beach side campgrounds. Our site (B36) was perfect! FWCG is a great base camp for fishing the point or Ocracoke beaches. Views are superb. They just finished a brand new dog park with a dog wash. Our site was FHU and even had cable TV. We’ll definitely be back!

We had site 24 on the Sound and it was beautiful. Checking in I told the counter it was my first time and they directed me to the site using the road on the Sound. To my surprise it was completely washed out under water and I was lucky to be able to divert through empty sites. Once situated I could not imagine why the clerk didn’t send me using the road before the edge of the sound as we just had a tropical storm and it should have been worth mentioning there was two routes.
Anyhow the sunsets are spectacular and if you like to fish or wind surf this is a great location. The site was perfectly level left to right but they are narrow, like bare minimum narrow. The park is packed in like sardines but there is nice spots if you book in advance to get.
Finally, watch the weather like a hawk. We had 2 and a half gorgeous days until it turned again with sustained 30mph wind coming in from the Sound. And to no surprise the road flooded overnight while we were sleeping. Luckily I was in our spot backwards allowing the rear living the windowed view of the water so I could easily hitch up and bug out early when we saw the next two days would be the same plus adding rain. I would go again if coming into Hateras but we will seek out other inland trips in the spring.

Been coming here for years. The sites al now all level and they put fresh sod down. Sites available right on the sound front. Full hookups. Restaurants within walking distance, convenient grocery stores and fishing supplies. Sites are spacious but close. We love the B section B20 and up. Lots of shady sites for tents. Pet friendly. Try it, you’ll never go back to the crappy Camp Hatteras again.
