Located 500 ft from the new river bike trail up a hollar. Super clean, all sites are pull through with full hookups, internet, cable. Modern and clean restrooms and showers. Tom the owner is a great. Very accommodating to all your needs. All sites are level, gravel surface, with table. Located in a small creek. Pet friendly. One of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Very quiet. Not jammed together room to breathe.

Fries (“freeze) is a tiny town on the New River. The roads to get to the RV park are a bit narrow but we made it fine with a 45MH and toad. This park is small, and as others have said, beautifully landscaped. There is a stream that runs through the park, and most sites are on the stream. Some sites have decks and others have terracing. All have a swing or a swing nearby. The sites are dark gravel but it is large enough that it isn’t attracted to the bottom of your feet. The layout of the park is quite unusual which actually affords more privacy. Some sites are nose to tail and others have more separation. Except for a buddy site, none of the sites are right next to each other. Good job! The park is a bit off the beaten track and, as expected, Verizon coverage is low with 1x and occasionally 3g 1bar. We were able to get texts and minimal phone coverage using our extender. There is a US Cellular tower in Fries so I assume that would work fine. Luckily, the WII FI works great. It slows down periodically and will kick you off after a long while but for the most part we had no problems. Directv satellite worked fine in our location. The water pressure is low at 20-25 PSI. For the most part, it is very quiet except for the occasional dog’s bark or shooting of firearms (yep, guess that’s normal in these here parts). The owners are wonderful – even sharing fresh homemade muffins when you arrive (and they were delicious!). As for payment, they take credit cards for the deposit and cash or check for the balance. The New River bike trail is just across Main street. It is a fairly flat trail that follows the New River. The trail itself is fine gravel, and there is some shade. It was great to have a nice trail so close by. We really enjoyed our time here. It’s one of those places to “chillax” sitting outside listening to the creek. Our lounge chairs got plenty of use!

We had a wonderful time here. The park is beautiful and is very convenient to the New River Park a couple blocks away. The owner has done an excellent job of designing this small park.

Arrived: Oct 10, 2019
Departed: Oct 11, 2019
The proprieter Tom Guy met us as we arrived and took us right to our site. Tom came back later with a small loaf of ciniman-raison bread that all arrivals receive. He then gave us a review of the local area
All but a few sites are drive thru and almost all are along a creek. Its was very quiet and not so lit up as to interfere with the night sky.
The park has only about 20 sites in a revene above the town of Fries along the New River.
WIFI was adequate enough to stream in a movie and the Verizon reception was adequate.
There was a small house in the park that had a meeting area, laundry facilities and a single/seperate bathroom/shower for men and for women.
It was only a 10 minute walk into town where a single country diner serves mostly simple country fare.
The unexpected surprise was the Thursday night bluegrass practice in the old town theater from 7-9. Include a cake walk at intermission.

Charming, clean, well laid out private RV park that dots a babbling stream. This park should be 'the' model for all private RV parks.

We contacted Tom, the park's owner and caretaker, as the Coronavirus pandemic of early 2020 was forcing closures of campgrounds across the nation. Tom welcomed us with flexibility and respect - and an amazing campsite to spend two months in.

Level gravel pads and well positioned 30/50, water and sewer welcome even big rigs like ourselves. There are pull through and back-ins, most positioned near a small stream that quite literally sings you to sleep. Other than the stream - and the slap of the water wheel if you're near it - the town is incredibly quiet both night and day. Most sites are provided a wooden swing. Some have decks that overlook the stream. Many have some sort of flowering plant that just may bloom while you're there if you're lucky!

The roads getting to the park are a bit twisty-turny - but not unnavigable even in a big rig. But, once you arrive, and Tom helps guide you into your site (we watched him guide multiple different rigs into the back in sites and not once was there an issue), the stress of a blind curve or two will melt away.

We can't speak to 'activities' in town (Coronavirus) - our main draw was a long, manicured, flat bike path that winds along the New River for miles - but have been told this is a 'pickin' town, with Thursday evening summer bluegrass on a stage near the river. The river, trail, and all of 'town' are within a 1/4 - 1/2 walk from the park.

There is NO cellular service in Fries - or at the RV park - on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile. You can see a cellular tower from the park, which is provisioned for U.S. Cellular. Tom, however, has provisioned the RV park with usable Wi-Fi - a true rarity for RV parks! The Wi-Fi can be accessed at any site in the park thanks for a solid extender system he's had installed. We used the parks' Wi-Fi to work and to make Wi-Fi based phone calls. We did note that once the park began filling with campers again, the bandwidth was less usable - sometimes frustratingly so.

We did not have the opportunity to utilize the laundry, restrooms, or communal area - but all appeared tidy and accessible.

This park is seriously top notch. The only negative for us was the price. Tom did mention that he doesn't typically offer sites from longer term stays, so he really didn't have a monthly rate to offer. $40/night with a slight percentage discount adds up - we're talking resort prices. However, Tom's hospitality and upkeep of this lovely little park make it difficult to even note that. He has built (literally) a beautiful little park - and his management of it is spot on.

I'll also mention - Tom goes out of his way to make your stay really awesome. We watched him offer assistance in various forms to other park patrons. He permitted us use of his personal bikes - which was above and beyond, but really great for riding the trail on days that running needed a break.

100% would stay here again - and will likely go out of our way to do so.

Fries is nested is a little holler right in town. You would never know your in town. Very private, quiet, stream running the grounds, , level lots with all amenities. Elect, water, sewer, cable tv, wi-fi. A little pricy but we'll worth it. We are self contained so we didn't use the bathrooms, but from past experience i know they were spotless.
Owner Mr. Tom is a great guy, helpful, and caring.
Lots to do here, with the river and bike trail in view. Great base camp to fish, canoe the river, or bike the many miles of river trail. Lots to do in fries. Great river outfitter out of fries by the bridge. Timmy will help you plan your adventures in land or the river.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Fries New River RV Park this past week and had a great time. The owner, Tom, was exceptionally friendly, helpful and accommodating!

The park is immaculately maintained and appointed with beautiful landscaping, streams and water features. It is also within walking distance to local restaurants and the New River and also close to a local kayak and canoe outfitter. We especially enjoyed biking in the New River Trail State Park which was also nearby!

Our campsite was more secluded than some of the others, and had a large wooden deck next to a beautiful stream. The site was nicely manicured, level and quiet.

Although we could not get any local TV channels, Tom does offer free cable TV. The campground wi-fi signal was good and sufficient for streaming. Our ATT cell phone signal was sketchy and our Verizon hot spot also had signal trouble. We actually enjoyed the peace and quiet afforded to us by being somewhat "unplugged".

We look forward to making the Fries New River RV Park an annual destination! Thank you Tom for giving us a great experience!

We were here for five nights in late April 2022. It is in a beautiful setting nestled between two hills right in Fries, VA. Not more than 200 yards from the New River Trail Virginia State Park and within an easy walk to the New River. The park is very clean and well kept. Sites are gravel and level. They are full hookup, 30 and 50 amp. Each site has a roomy living area with a picnic table. Running through the park is a nice stream and you can hear it trickling by your site. The shower house is quite nice and very clean with plenty of hot water. Tom, the owner couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The WIFI is remarkable for RV park standards. We easily streamed videos and did whatever we needed on our laptops. It is just a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail. Within fifteen minutes is Galax, VA and there is just about anything you might need there. Mount Airy, North Carolina, the home of Andy Griffith, is about 45 minutes away and there is much to see and do there. Right at the entrance of the Campground is Fries Baptist Church. We found the people to be very welcoming and the pastor was great. Every bit of our experience here was the absolute best!

We were thrilled that owner Tom immediately answered our TXT message (yes, you book by TXT!) that he had a site for us over 4th of July weekend with little notice. So we sent him a deposit via Zelle, and headed that way.

Our site was perched in the newer area of the park way at the top of the hill - offering lots of privacy. But a bit of a climb to get to by foot. Thankful we had our e-Bikes as we needed them just to get to and from the bath house.

Our purpose however was biking the New River Trail, which this park has great access to. So lovely!

The town itself doesn't have much to do - on weekends the caboose on the river serves ice cream. And that's about it. A farmer's market looked to be under development.

All and all, a quiet retreat over a holiday weekend in in a super friendly, impeccably maintained and lovely atmosphere. The owner is super helpful, and even arranged a 4th of July BBQ at a friend's nearby property for the entire campground (we didn't attend however). He's very community centric and welcoming.

We could not get any of our cellular carriers to connect here, except AT&T which was actually roaming onto US Cellular. The campground's Wi-Fi works quite nicely, and we were able to get a usable signal on Starlink too.
