“Tour the many exhibits”
New exhibits are open at the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center. The visitor center film is currently unavailable. Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania--this is America's battleground, where the Civil War roared to its bloody climax. No place more vividly reflects the War's tragic cost in all its forms. A town bombarded and looted. Farms large and small ruined. Refugees by the thousands forced into the countryside. More than 85,000 men wounded; 15,000 killed--most in graves unknown.
We were confused by all the parks showing on the map regarding Civil War sites in this area. On our way to Fredericksburg we came across the Chancerlorsville Battlefield Visitor Center and stopped in to get our bearings. This place is amazing. The displays and films are extremely well done and very enlightening. The pace is good and the surrounding acreage adds to the recreation of the events.
