Small county park, not very touristy when we were there. Seemed to be people working in the state capital an easy drive across the river. Sites located on or overlooking the River and had electric and water. Ft. Pierre and right at this site by the confluence of the Bad River is where Lewis and Clark had their first possible dispute with Indians in 1805. The "Corp." were able to bluff their way out of a testy argument and pulled out to head further up the River for an overnight. Their journey could have ended there.
Just up in the hills overlooking town were discovered lead plates left by French explores almost a century earlier. School kids on recess found them and almost sold them to a local printer to melt down for type. Quiet a story!
Lots of good camping all around here, both sides of the River both up and downstream.
Great little park. Right on the river. County horse race track to the west and walk to the town of Fort Pierre for dinner over the walking bridge.
Lots to do in the Pierre area. Several good museums. State archives.
Verizon 2 bars 25.82/3.15 Mbps down/up
Rate increase for 2017 to $15.
This is a great bang for the buck. Nice spacious sites and great views of the river. Our kids enjoyed riding their bikes and playing at the park which is right next to the campground. Bathrooms at the park were clean and it's just a short walk over the Bad River to the city pool.
A few riverfront mosquitoes at sunset should not disqualify this dandy of a campground. Riverfront quiet, only 15 sites with water and 20-30-50 electric, plus dump station and flush toilets at the immediately adjacent public park. Play pedestrian bridge across the river allows you to walk to and from dinner and a local bar in town. A local craftsman thought highly enough of the campground to craft several very custom fire rings. Plasma cutouts of pheasants and other shapes, plus a swivel grate atop the ring to cook upon. quite nice!
Meandering access thru a wide residential area was no concern, but could create doubts for a newbie.
Long level back in sites.
This campground is operated by the city of Fort Pierre as part of their city park. These sites are water/electric (20/30/50A) only, although there is a free dump station on site. Sites are right on the river, and we found some of them near the entrance to be exceedingly spacious, including ours #12. There are 12 sites total, and ours was immaculate.
The location right on the banks of the Missouri River can't be beat, and it's the perfect location for exploring all that the Pierre area has to offer: the state capitol complex, the museums, even walleye fishing in the river or nearby Lake Oahe. We spent Memorial Day weekend here and loved it -- my wife was wishing that we could stay longer. Even on the holiday weekend the campground was wonderfully quiet and serene.
Many thanks to the City of Fort Pierre for making this location available.
Great little campground, run by the city. Cash or check only, using an envelop and a pay station on site. All back in sites, most could have handled our 43 ft. class A and toad. It is first come first serve with a limit to the number of days you can stay. It was never "full" during our visit and had fairly regular turnover of campers.
Pierre, across the river has some great bike trails and walking trails. Our back up site was the Griffin park in Pierre but it didn't have water hook ups (Fischer's Lily has individual water and electric (20/30/50) at each campsite.
Very quiet at night. We will definitely stay here again.
Both of our phones (one AT&T and one Verizon) worked fine. Also, our hotspot was working well.
Great little park with easy access. Water and electric at each site with the river close by. Very well maintained.
Every site has a great view of the bridge & missouri River. There’s a history lesson about where the Indians met Louis & Clark. Bridges 2 playgrounds. We saw deer in the park, in our camp, in the horse race track behind us. We saw swallows, crickets, grasshoppers , butterflies. We walked across the bridge into the historic buildings & streets. We stopped at the convenience store/casino.
Stayed one night in site 12 which had electrical and potable water. Dump station at the circle. Clean, quiet. Walking areas in park. Walking distance to town.
