Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on October 05, 2022This is, I think, my favorite site in 9 months and 7,000 miles of full-time RVing. If we didn't have plans already set, I would have stayed for the maximum allowable time.
The park is right on Lake Lanier. The loop we were on was on a spit out into the lake, so nearly all the sites had waterfront access. There was also a little semi-private beach that was - because of the parking - unaccessbile to people not staying on the loop. Our site (52) was the "second-best site on the lake" according to several people we talked to. (The best is site 55, right at the end of the spit.) Nearly all the sites were shady, large and fairly private.
One noticible aspect was that the campers were friendlier than most Army Corp sites we've been to. Chatty. Turns out that a lot of the locals stay here, putting an RV or trailer on a site and then coming and going from home depending on the weather and what they are doing. It's like a second summer home, I think.
The lake itself is awesome. The water was actually pretty warm, and the little secluded beach was a very pleasant way to enjoy. There are lots of boaters, but they were some distance away.
The only downside we found was what appears to be a strange weather pattern, that only occurs out on this particular spit. There was a huge downpour with thunder and lightening just as we were checking in. Not much wind at the front check-in, but it turns out that there were several micro-bursts out on the spit, one of which tore a campers awning off and blew it up on his room. Another camper (a local) said that he had a similar thing happen last in (2 months before) which ripped his CLOSED awning off the side of his new Class C.

One of 6 COE campgrounds at Lake Lanier. There are 84 total sites at Old Federal. The facilities are pristine, lots of trees, and especially.. most all sites are lakefront. Check-in is 3:00 p.m., and check out is by 1:00 p.m Gates are locked at 10:30 so no in or out until morning at 7:00. Close to boating activities, Lake Lanier park, and some smaller towns around this particular campground. The sites are all paved, and spacious. Grills, fire pits, water and electric. Sunsets are especially nice on the water. One of the nicest COE parks I've been to. The road there is a bit windy and GPS directions for some are not accurate. Double check your reading and maps.

This quickly became our favorite COE to go to. Friendly staff, clean and level paved sites with plenty of room and most with incredible views. Just a great place to camp.

RV lake life doesnt get any better than this! We were on the lake, and had a level and shaded campsite. We felt we had distance from our neighbors. Decent shade from some mature trees. Our campsite (38) gave us stunning sunset views and meant the sun rose behind us so we could sit out and have coffee for several hours each morning. Staff were amazing and very friendly. Will be back!

This is the case 3rd COE campground I’ve stayed at in recent weeks. And Old Federal impressed like the others.
Site #42 might be the only site without trees; but I loved the full view of the lake! The site is at the end of a cove and it was so peaceful to hear the little waves lapping against the shore.
While I loved the site, it wasn’t as secluded as others in the campground and my neighbor was very close. The walk to the bathroom was also farther than most other sites, I believe.
On Friday and Saturday night I could here music in the distance till maybe 9 or a bit later. I’m not sure if it was from within the campground or across the lake. It was nice to be able to hear and know that people where enjoying the evening.

As they say in realty.. location, location, location! This campground has spectacular views from just about every single spot. Ours had just about 200 degrees of flawless views of the lake and some woods. It is a smaller site compared to the others but it is perfect for a Bclass or tent and van setup. We did experience some heavy rain and wind but that’s nobody’s fault. We will most definitely come back in the new year as they seem to have closed for the winter.. what a shame, we’d love to spend a thanksgiving there.

Level site with easy paved access. Fit 18’ trailer with Silverado + Camry (barely). Each has a small grill, fire pit, and picnic table. Great view of Lake Lanier. Little beach within walking distance. Campsites are right beside each other, but not so close that you can hear your neighbor’s conversation (most of the time). Bathrooms and showers within walking distance (fairly clean). Gate closes at 10:30p with no in/out access. No alcohol allowed in park. Closet gas station and restaurant about 8 minutes away. Not a ton to do in the general area except swim/fish/rent a boat. There are some smaller hiking trails a short drive away.

I’m pretty sure every single spot has water views as the campground is on a small collection of peninsulas jutting out into the lake. This area of the lake is wider and busier so there is a lot of boat activity including sail boats.
We stayed here for a little over a week while needing to be in the area for other commitments, we only wish we had more time to actually hang out and enjoy our spot at the campground.
Bathhouses left much to be desired, so we just used our rig for everything.
Excellent service/speeds with AT&T so didn’t test anything else.
