“one of the oldest state parks in the US”
Conveniently located near I-75 in middle Georgia, Indian Springs is one of the oldest state parks in the United States and a popular spot for outdoor recreation. For centuries, Creek Indians collected the spring water for its healing qualities, and during the 1800s, the area was a bustling resort town. Today, visitors can still sample the spring water flowing inside the stone Spring House built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Park guests can enjoy wading in Sandy Creek or swimming in McIntosh Lake, named for Creek Chief William McIntosh who signed an illegal treaty deeding Indian land to Georgia in 1825. A small museum, open seasonally, highlights Creek Indians, the resort era and CCC history. Cottages and campsites may be reserved for overnight stays.

Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on February 01, 2024I work for a florida state park and if our park was in this condition we would be shut down and everyone fired off. Trash and debris is everywhere, bathrooms are god awful, construction materials take over most park grounds and what isnt are closed buildings where you cant even fully look at the park. One young boy driving a truck around and four ladies sitting down chatting in the office. You would think this place would be better kept up with so many on one shift. Its heart wrenching knowing this beautiful place is being ran into the ground.
Reserved two sites for myself and another RVer through Reserve America. Requested 50 amp sites of which there are only two. Very nice and clean park with nice level sites. Lots to see and do in the area. Great restaurant in town called Yahola Creek Restaurant, don't miss this one, park behind corner store.

Lots of great sites. If picking again, the sites facing the water are really nice.
Good place for kayaking or fishing. Many people just play in the Rapids which is very refreshing.
There is a very fun multi use trail for mountain biking.
Loved this place.

I was quite surprised to see that the space between sites was more than I thought it would be. Given that none of the sites have full hook-up, only electric and water, I was pleasantly surprised to see there are sink water dumps quite often within the campground. We had no problem getting our pop-up camper in our spot with enough room for our Armada in front. There were all manner of rigs at the campground, everything from Class A down to a teardrop and they all seemed to have good amount of room. Campground was clean and the people there were marvelous. The staff was quite helpful and the easy availability of wood for campfires made for an easy and wonderful trip for us and our two daughters, 7 and 11. This is a place that we will happily stay at again.

Indian Springs State Park is in Flovilla, Georgia. It is thought to be the oldest state park in the nation. There are some areas that they are upgrading right now but it doesn't affect your RV stay. They have a lovely lending library that was centrally located by the bathhouse in campground #2.
People flocked to this area to enjoy the healing properties of the springs. If you read the paperwork on what is actually in the water here you'd be surprised. Arsenic is even listed as something that has curative powers! Nearly everything in the water has something lauded for helping the bowels.
Centuries ago the Creek Indians lived here and then in the 1800s the area became a resort town. The state park was built during the Great Depression when the Civil Conservation Corps was in full swing.
Our visit was amazing. We had beautiful spring weather, good neighbors, and a site that was private. The camp host, Kelly, was amazing. We stayed at campground #2 on site #77. It overlooked placid McIntosh Lake.
You never know what you're going to see when camping. One lady we met had a really interesting motorized/electric scooter on three wheels that she could either ride standing up like she was driving a Segway or sitting down like she was riding a bike. She said it helped her if they parked too far from the bathhouse. Ingenious for anyone with trouble getting around. It folds up small so it's easy to pack in the back of a truck. Apparently Camping World has it for approximately $900 but she got it online for around $700 from the manufacturer. Cool!
There were several places to go hiking here but you have to drive to them if you don't just want to hike around the campground. Back where you sign in at the historic Idlewilde Park office, you can sample some of the spring water before getting started on your nature hike. We used the app MapMyWalk so we could see to turn around at 2 miles. The hike was strenuous at times, meandering at other times, and beautiful the entire time. Many mountain bikers came by on the path so we had to be extra aware of our surroundings. There were beautiful bridges, swamp areas teeming with life, and of course beautiful lake views. Turtles balanced precariously on the edges logs as we walked by.
We definitely want to come back here again in the future!

I camped here for a week in December while I was waiting to close the sale on my house. The pilot station at the exit does not have propane, and I don't think the local dealers do RV fills. I recommend getting it before you get near the park, or call the local places and check. The best entrance is via Lake Clark , but Google gets it wrong. You want the Lake Clark Rd entrance from Hwy 42 S. If you have an RV, the Lake Clark Rd entrance from Brownlee Rd is gravel and potted - it's suitable for a car though, I used it on multiple occasions to get to Hapeville, Peachtree City, and the grocery store in Jackson. The road up to the office checkin is winding, narrow, and no shoulder. The Spring Rd entrance from Hwy 42 S is EXIT ONLY, so don't plan to pull in there if Google maps tells you to.
The cell phone service was good. I used my Verizon hotspot and was able to stay connected. Hiking is sparse as far as I could tell. There is a moderate trail available near the spring park area, but it wasn't a focus of the park. The picnic area is great, lots of space, tables, grills, and pavilions. One area by the spring, and another area near the reservoir. Great wedding and gathering spot, there was a couple getting married while I was there. Closest town is Jackson. It has the basics and necessities. A nice downtown square. Probably would have better in the spring or fall. Electric hookups included both 30amp and 20amp in the box. I like this because I can charge my EV at camp without routing through the RV system. I don't know if I'll be back, but it's more due to the location than anything I dislike about the park.

Great campground! Large sites, shaded, really pretty state park.
We were passing through, but this is on our list to return to and explore more. High Falls is nearby to explore also.
The only criticism would be the condition of the dump station. There was sewage all over the station. It was one of the dirtiest we've ever seen.

This quaint state park is a beautiful getaway with lots to do for campers of all ages (fishing, kayaking, putt-putt, paddle boats, etc). Most of the campsites were shaded with good spacing between most of them. Good access to the lake via public access areas. Although many sites are very close to the lake, there are no real open views of the lake due to the trees and underbrush. Tight access for big rigs but doable. ZERO AT&T cell signal unless you make your way to higher ground. Limited TV reception but free cable TV! 30 amp service only. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Bring an empty gallon jug and be sure to get some of the highly prized and famous spring water from the spring house!

A bit steep to climb with narrow roads but the experience is incredible. Beautiful park. Huge trees. Very humid in August. I was able to hotspot my laptop to my phone and do my work. Slow, but it worked. The office has free WiFi
