“located in one of the most scenic area in the state”
The Volga River Recreation Area is located in one of the most scenic parts of the state. Northeast Iowa is often referred to as "Little Switzerland" because of its rugged topography, geologic features and substantial timber cover which are in sharp contrast to the majority of the state's rolling hills, farmland and scattered stands of timber. The heavily wooded, rugged landscape of the Volga River is an exciting setting for a variety of outdoor recreation pursuits.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on May 23, 2022Very clean and great location. Several well marked trails and a lake nearby with a canoe/kayak launch area. Great price for full hookups and big sites. Some with concrete pads and some with gravel but
also nice grass around each site. Laid out nicely. Will go again for sure!
We stayed for a week on site 26. It was a level, pull through, full hook up site in the 2nd loop. The sites were spacious with plenty of space between neighbors. It is called Lakeview Campground but we couldn't see the lake at all. It was empty during the week but filled completely with local campers for the weekend. There were some heavy storms during the week so we didn't get to explore much. I have been to many parks that were a long drive from the highway but this one felt more isolated than most. There is only one paved road to the park and it was under construction while we were there, so we were forced to use the gravel roads which were not well marked. AT&T was almost non-existent but Verizon worked well.
Be sure to get EVERYTHING you need before you arrive. The park is very isolated and there is no store or gas station in the vicinity.

This was a very clean campground. They had lots of bathroom locations around the whole park, the showers were very clean and great pressure with no long wait for hot water. There is a very well kept playground in the park and a lot of multi use (equestrian, hike, bike, atv and snow mobile) trails throughout the whole park. They are Dog friendly as long as leashed at all times. It's a very big park so it's a bit of a drive through the park to get to the campground, but that means it is very very quiet! No noise to be heard from any highway. We were very impressed by this campground! everything was so clean and easily accessible. They even have a little local wine cafe right outside the park (as your heading in) and we really enjoyed the serene outdoor seating and the owners were very friendly. There is a route 66 gas station in Fayette, only a 10 minute drive out of the park if needed. Definitely coming back!
