Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 03, 2021Osprey Nest is a basic private campground with a limited number of transient sites. Owners were friendly and welcoming. Campground is directly on Lake Mattamuskeet with great sunsets, Nothinng fancy but sites were levelwith good hookups, no privacy between sites. We did not use the bath house at all so can’t comment on them. The key here is location. Osprey Nest is your best bet for visiting this area and Mattamuskeet NWR in particular. We visited following Thanksgiving for the fall migration and were amazed by number of tundra swans and snow geese on the area. It is approximately 10-15 minutes to the NWR. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I and my son stayed with the Simmons at their campground the whole weekend. It was very quiet, relaxing and off the beaten path. Down 8 mile road. At the very end is Hyde correctional institution. We were not worried as it is a heavily guarded prison , we actually used it as a learning tool for our teenage son. We drove him to the end of 8 mile road. And showed him the prison. Told him of he wanted to keep his freedom to stay out of trouble or he may end up there. Anyways. Back to camping. The site was very nice, owners very nice. Th campsite backs up to the back of Lake Mattamuskeet. Great fishing and fun. We spent all day Saturday fishing. Caught lots of fish too. We released them as there were signs everywhere of a dangerous algea bloom in the lake. So we didn't want to keep th fish The bath house on site was amazing. Full-size showers and toilets. They even have a full size washer and dryer to use if need be. We used the showers cause as you all know rv showers the hot water don't last long with 3 people. We will def be back to stay again.

I so appreciate them letting us stay last minute
This campground is almost exclusively long-term rentals. The owner said that all rentals are one year leases. They do have one spot that they created just for transient guests. It is shoehorned in next to the bathhouse. Even so, he views out our windows were spectacular, especially with sunrise over the lake and, the swans, snow geese, and thousands of ducks close at hand. That’s what we came to see and experience. We stayed four nights and could not have been happier. Site best for a smaller rig with no slide outs. Ours is an Airstream Basecamp 20X, so 20 ft. 30Amp electrical, good water and a sewer hookup at the site.
