Bean Flat Rest Area

Needed a place to stop for the night, and this fit the bill. Long area, enough to fit multiple rv’s and semis. We were one of 3 to stay overnight. Some road noise but that’s to be expected. Very windy.

Great off the highway overnight spot. Fabulous night sky, but was a little hindered by California wildfires. Road is not heavy traffic, so was very quiet. Cell service was marginal.

Bean Flat Rest Area is about halfway between Austin, NV and Eureka, NV on US 50. Overflowing trash cans and picnic tables are the only thing here. The rest area is on the north side of the highway. It is somewhat level although we moved a couple of times to a "better" spot. Lots of room. A big rig was our only company, and it was parked a couple hundred yards away. Very light traffic after dark there was no traffic. Great stargazing location.

Literally. There is a gross smell in the air. Like a cross between beer and human waste. This is a “windows closed” stay, or better yet, just avoid it. Unless you’re blessed with a poor sense of smell.
