We are on our way to Mt Rushmore and needed a place for the night. After some research, we discovered that you have to have a state park car pass for entrance into South Dakota parks ($30 for the first vehicle and $15 for the second vehicle), plus $19 to camp for the night. As we are driving two vehicles, our total cost for one night of camping would have been $64, so we searched out alternatives.

Elk Point City Park has everything you could decide in a pass-through camp spot:
- quickly accessible from the highway
-electric sites available
-pull-through sites available
-camping on freshly mowed, thick, green grass
-flush toilets
-HOT showers (the bathroom floor was fairly dirty, but the toilets were clean and working!)
-big playground right next to the campsite
- in town, so you can walk to get food

Drawbacks:
- next to the baseball fields, so don't camp here on Fridays or Saturdays!
- next to the school (we camped next to the school's chain link fence) - so don't expect quiet and privacy if you're planning to sleep late

On our way out west all the way from Ohio, this was a great place to stop along the way on a 4th of July weekend, the last review was very good and I would agree that the place was very accessible from the highway and what a deal only $10 for the night and that included the electric. It is very clean and appears to be well-maintained. I did not use the bathroom so could not tell you about them.

Grass area, but we were able to level easily. Shower house was just OK. Trash at the park shelters, and cardboard recydling only. Easy access from the I-29, but surprisingly quiet. Next to a sports field so might have to deal with noise and lights on some weekends, but the Friday before Labor Day nothing was going on. This a city park, so there is a nice playground for the kids. A few monthly parkers, but $10 for electric and sewer is a steal. No dump station, but that wasn't a problem for us.

Perfect place to spend the night. Since you park on a fairly lumpy lawn, getting level can be problematic, but we managed to find a level site. Then it was just plug in and watch the prairie dogs. No creepy people; no lights keeping you up; and not much noise from nearby I-29. We thought it was pretty perfect for an overnight stay.

Recommended. Did not use the bathroom so can’t comment on those facilities.

Stayed here overnight - 20 sites, half gravel half grass. Electric hookup only with a shared water Spigot, no dump. Quiet enough - you can hear the interstate, but with the aircon on... Next to a bunch of sports fields, not sure how it would be with a baseball game on and all the lights!

If the place was full it would be very tight, most people using the site next to them to park cars, etc. Perfect for an overnight stop when its just too warm to boondock comfortably...

Beautifully maintained city park with 23 sites w/ up to 50 amp service. A few sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Some are gravel sites while other are just grass. We parked our 36ft Class A in one of the grass sites with minimal leveling necessary. There are a few water spigots throughout the camping area which we were able to pull up to in order to fill our tank BUT we were only able to do so because most of the sites were empty. If there were other RVs parked in some of the spots, we would not have been able to get close enough to fill our tank. This means you want to come with a full fresh tank.

This would be a great place for families with kids of any age. There is just about every type of sports field, a playground, a frisbee golf course, and even a public swimming pool nearby. There is also a beautiful pond with a nearby gazebo and a few benches. We saw a few kids fishing in the pond and even witnessed one of them catch a very small fish.

The one and only draw back is the noise from the freeway... if that sort of thing bothers you, this may not be your place.

Easy access for any size rig, we are 44 ft class A pulling F150 and we had no problems turning and pulling into a grass site. 30 and 50 amp service available but only a few shared water hydrants but for $15 hard to beat. You will hear road noise from the interstate but not terrible. Nice frisbee golf course on site and bike paths. Lots of chipmunks if that bothers you. Overall a great value.

We needed a place to overnight and this place was great. Stayed here in August in a 21’ TT and parked in the grass. There are picnic tables and trash cans. Close to the highway but noise didn’t bother us. We loved the little town. We got take out at Los Amigos and shopped at the local grocery. Looked like there may be 1 or 2 long term RV’ers, but park does not appear to fill up. Very well maintained park. There are envelopes at the Sign coming in to pay.

So we went by a Walmart suggested on this site in Sioux City. We did not feel safe came up the road to find this spot at a city park! $15 drop box fee 30 and 50 amp shared water. What a find! Police patrol to make sure fees are paid.
