“Hit the Pow in East Burke”
Sure, a lot of our neighboring mountains have summer activities–it’s just that a lot of them aren’t very active. Don’t get us wrong–mountain coasters and slippy slides can be fun, but that’s not why National Geographic selected the area as aGeotourism Destination. So we prefer to take advantage of the natural beauty that surrounds us. True North is a lifestyle–so as the skis and boards and sweaters go away, the bikes and kayaks and PFDs come out. After the annual swap, we start changing a different kind of gears on the “best mountain biking trail network in North America” (according to Bike Magazine, who know about this sort of thing). Our neighbor and partner, the Kingdom Trails Association, meticulously manages and maintains 110 miles of trails, including the Burke Mountain Bike Park, the only lift-served biking on the network.
Not into mountain biking? You don’t know what you’re missing–and there are plenty of fun trails appropriate for beginners. But hey, it’s up to you. How about hiking? Camping? Climbing? Fishing? Boating? Kayaking? Canoeing? Golfing? Horseback riding? Whether you want to be on land or on water, if you can do it outside, you can do it here–surrounded by some of the most breathtaking, unspoiled scenery in the world.
