Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on July 27, 2022We met up with some freinds at the visitor center nearby, and decided to stay a couple of days. We are still working, and require cell service, of which we had plenty. This small campground was very clean and had large sites that were spread out. 75m from our campsite is the edge of the Gorge, the view is amazing. There is little traffic (of course, it's after Labor Day) and only one other site was taken. While the bathroom is a pit toilet, it's very clean.
I might think twice about camping here with small children, as the edge of the Gorge involved a long drop, and isn't far away. There is a hiking path along the edge, from which you can walk to the Lodge 1.5 miles away, or hike or ride bikes for several miles. There is a great view from the visitor center (200 meters away) and some displays about the local wildlife and Native Americans who lived here. Tents might be a problem here, max we didn't see many rock-free areas for a tent.

Sites are great quality. Concrete tables, metal grill table and the fire pits are concrete. Bathrooms are clean.

We loved it here. You’re camping just a few feet of the rim of the gorge, and it is definitely one of the prettiest campgrounds I’ve stayed. The campground road is not super well maintained, but the loop is small so it’s manageable. There’s 1 vault toilet, but the toilets at the visitor center are open all night (7 min. walk). The sites aren’t level and small, so I wouldn’t recommend it for big rigs / anything over 26 feet.

So beautiful. Access is insane. Trees. Gorgeous weather. Fire pits. Drinking water nearby. Love this place!

Pros: Within walking distance of the visitors' center that includes stunning overlooks and 100' from the rim trail which has more great overlooks. Because we stayed in site 1 we were a short block walk across the road to the large vehicle parking for the visitor's center. This meant we could park our toad with all of our stuff so within easy reach. Quiet nights. Water right next to site. Trash and toilet both far enough from the site. We definitely will want to return!
A head scratch for us was a full campground on Fri. night that completely emptied on Sat. Nearly every site had reserved signs on them and almost no one showed up Sat. night.
Cons: The campground is under a special use permit to American Land and Leisure who does not honor any discounts including our federal Senior Pass.
Nothing against the site but our stay coincided with wildfire smoke filled skies that really took the edge off the beauty of this place.
3 bars of Verizon extended LTE got the job done but with delay using a booster.
The rim trail is a rocky bike ride until a few smoother spots along Skull Creek. Seems worse where the horses from the Red Canyon Lodge also use it.
The camp host is in the Canyon Rim Campground.

Can't believe all the glowing reviews. The only thing positive about it is the incredible views along the rim trail nearby. If it was $10/night maybe I could accept the fee. Road through the campground is all rutted. Spurs need to be improved. The ancient toilet is unbelievable. On the plus side there are several water spigot and a dumpster.

We scouted this campground and were not impressed. The road was so bad that I could not avoid any of the potholes, sites were close together with no trees between them at all. Vault toilets were not clean.
We did have good AT&T coverage.

What it has going for it is it’s close to the rim as well as next to the visitor center. The water is good there. Some of the sites are really pretty nice. There are potholes in the road but to me they weren’t a big deal.

This is probably one of the most beautiful campsites I’ve every been too! This is located right on the edge of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. 30ft-100ft from your campsite are some spectacular views of the lake! This place is a must! Make your reservations before going to get the good spots. $20 per spot.
