The Refectory Cafe, Duke University's first socially, environmentally and economically sustainable restaurant, was established in 2005 at Duke Divinity School. After being awarded "the best food on campus" three years in a row, The Refectory opened its second location at Duke Law School. Now with 7 years of Achieving Duke's "Best Food on Campus", Duke's Environmental Leadership Award (4 years) and the highest sanitation rating in Durham (7 years); The Refectory Cafe at Duke Divinity School has relocated to Chapel Hill Blvd to better serve the Durham Community. The Duke community will continue to be served by The Refectory Cafe at Duke Law AND the brand new "Refectory Cafe on Wheels". Originally from Long Island, NY, Laura Hall, a retired Executive from the Technology Industry & mother of four is the Founder & Owner of The Refectory Cafe. After a successful 22 year business career Laura Hall developed a restaurant model "dedicated to providing healthy, homemade, nutritious meals while preserving the environment, strengthening the community and enriching the lives of their customers and employees". Highly regarded as the "Best food on campus" for 7 years running Laura and her very capable team have focused on providing nutrient dense, locally sourced meals for people who appreciate "Slow Food Fast". The Refectory Cafe has been reviewed by "Our State Magazine", "InTRUST", Food Management, Raleigh N&O, The Independent, Triangle Business Journal, The Herald Sun and Channel 4 News in the Triangle. Dedicated to the Durham community, The Refectory Cafe locally supports NC Arts in Action, East Durham Children's Initiative, The Center for Child and Family Health and, of course, the Farmers of North Carolina.Bon Vivant Catering, Inc., owned by Laura Hall, is the parent company of The Refectory Cafe and is operated by Laura Hall and her sister, Geri Seibert - Director of Sales, Catering & Business Administration.
