There is great camping all along the reservoir. We first stopped in at the Horse Prairie Campground, which is mentioned by another reviewer here. It is exactly as described and would make a nice place to camp with some amenities for free. It was, however, mostly full on a late Monday afternoon when we stopped in so we decided to check out some of the less developed camping areas around the reservoir. There are sites right up by the dam that were also nicely developed, but we did not go down to them to get more details. There is an RV Campground on 324 shortly after crossing the dam from I-15; it was $30 per night and had electric as well as a boat launch. It didn't look like much, but if you need some power for a day or something it had plenty of vacancy.

We stayed at one of the primitive dirt roads that lead off of 324 and go towards the water. These roads are all over and from what we scouted many offer some very secluded waterfront boondocking. The area that we chose can be found at 44.989788, -112.877927. It was a perfect area for us to spend a week in our 32' Class C. The road in was a bit rutted, but we made it through and went over to the left where we found a private beach area that was pretty level at the top of the gravel hill that went down to sand by the water. We had a little Verizon LTE signal and with a booster it turned out to be pretty fast at around 4Mb/sec. No AT&T signal whatsoever. Also, there was one porta-potty near the area that we camped.

I think this reservoir has an option for everyone between the paid campground, developed free sites, and a ton of undeveloped camping areas. Town of Dillon up the road has everything you'd need and the Buffalo Lodge to the east of the dam does one heck of a good meal. Good fishing in the reservoir as evident by the many successful fishermen we saw enjoying themselves.

The name Homecoming Beach is in honor of Sacajawea reuniting with her family when Lewis & Clark met with the Shoshone at Camp Fortunate - the site of which is at the bottom of this reservoir.

There are numerous campgrounds here along the Clark Canyon Reservoir. Homecoming Beach has no amenities but is right on the shore of the reservoir! Water levels on the lake are extremely low right now but a nice sand beach section is there for swimming. There is little to no shade in the campground.

How can you beat gorgeous and free? We pulled in at dusk as an overnight stop and did not get an actual spot. The camp host was nice enough to help us get parked close to the boat ramp- with still amazing views. We got in to a beautiful parking spot in time for sunset.
