“Iowa's Historic Governor's Mansion”
Official Residence for Iowa's governors, National Historic Landmark, and museum. Built in 1869 by Iowa's First Millionaire, Benjamin Franklin Allen, Terrace Hill is one of Iowa's most treasured homes. After Allen suffered a reversal of fortune, he sold "the palace of the prairie" to Frederick Marion Hubbell. The property stayed in the Hubbell family for 70 years and was given by the Hubbell heirs to the State of Iowa in 1971. Since then, Iowa’s governors and their families have lived on the third floor and have graciously entertained dignitaries, school children, and visitors from all over the world. Terrace Hill is open for public tours Tuesday through Saturday at 10:30 AM,11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 1:30 PM. Terrace Hill is closed in January and February and on major holidays. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more.
Very beautiful home! We took pictures! But it wasn’t open yet so we didn’t get to tour!
The place has a somewhat historic touch and also the displays are good.
