“Beautiful music in Death Valley”
A once in a lifetime experience awaits you in a tiny town known as Death Valley Junction, for this is the home of the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel. For more than 35 years, Marta Becket has lived and shared her art and dreams with those fortunate enough to find this wonderful and magical place. Located a few miles west of the California-Nevada border, near Death Valley National Park, no journey to this part of the world would be complete without a visit to this unique and inspiring destination. In the spring of 1967, when Marta Becket found herself peering into the the old theater that would become the Amargosa Opera House, it was obviously abandoned.... and had been for some time. In the years since her arrival in Death Valley Junction, in the spring of 1967, Marta has painted murals throughout the hotel. An alcove at the entrance to the main hallway depicts a gazebo, naturally lighted by a skylight. A guitar rests upon a chair, silently waiting for a guitarist. Murals of a 16th century Spanish Garden adorn the walls of the Dining Room. Several of the guest rooms have murals painted on the walls where cherubs and peacocks and angels frolic. In room 22, a ballerina dances on a ball, and clowns and acrobats perform as a special dedication to RED SKELTON, who was a guest in this room on four occasions. It's long been rumored that the hotel is haunted by the spirits of gold miners who once resided in the building. In fact, the Amargosa Opera House is considered one of the top ten haunted hotels in the country!
