“relive the Little House stories”

The Ingalls Homestead is just that, the land Charles Ingalls homesteaded through the Homestead Act in 1880 with his family. Laura Ingalls Wilder lived on this land from age 13-18. You can experience pioneering history through covered wagon rides, a one-room school session, hands-on activities and camping on-site.

We had a great time here even though it was 100 degrees! They had cold bottles of water sold on the honor system (in 2012). It was surreal to pump their well pump and see Pa's actual cottonwood trees. Our kids really enjoyed all the hands-on activities that showed them what everyday life was like for the Ingalls.

Loved it. Stayed overnight in the bunkhouse and took 3-4 hours in the morning to tour the Homestead! If you go overnight in the summer, you might want to take the kids road hunting; they were right by the shower rooms (which BTW are not very private... Well, the men's, at least - probably the only downside of our stop) .

so well done! We loved the exhibits, the sincere enthusiasm of the staff, and that the tour is self-paced. SO glad we made time for this, a highlight of our trip.

So much fun, especially for Laura Ingalls Wilder fans. This is a family run place and they put a lot of effort into making an enjoyable experience.

I thought the facilities were very nice and we were excited to see the place where Laura actually lived. Having grown up with the tv show and the books and then sharing the books with my kids we were all interested in this stop. However, I thought It was quite over priced. We only had about an hour to spend and it was $20+ each. My children are 11 & 15. There were no hands on activities going on as it quite late in the day. Also we were disappointed that none of the buildings were actual historic buildings. They were all replicas, built to the specs of Charles. So while it was interesting, did not feel authentic. Felt more like a theme park. Oh well was still fun to imagine what life was like back then.

So much fun, especially for the kids. I was a huge fan of the Little House books so this was a dream come true. We didn't reserve early enough to get a covered wagon cabin, but they looked like they would be a lot of fun. We stayed in the bunkhouse - It was very big & clean. A little out of the way, but it was worth the dirve! All around a great location!

Fantastic time. Lots of hands on activities for the kids. We all made rope, shucked corn, did some clothes washing and more. You can still see the actual cottonwood trees that Pa planted. A must for a Laura Ingalls Wilder fan!
