“1 of the tiniest churches in America”
The Smallest Church in America was built in 1949 by Mrs. Agnes Harper and is "deeded to Jesus Christ." It is located on US 17 north of South Newport. It's probably not the smallest.. but it's pretty darn small. Signs help you find the place. Area nearby to sit and have lunch. This small church has chairs that will sit 6 on each side. The church is a small white building about 10'x20'. A bell tower (proportional in size to the church) was added to the church in 1998. There are stained glass windows on either side and the back wall.
Neat stop right off I95. I concur with Ms. Jenkins. The church is no where near the icon on the mobile app map. It is located off the northbound lane of HWY 17 just about a mile south of I95 exit 67. There is also a geocache at the site.
Great roadside stop. Unfortunately, recent vandalism caused original church to burn down;however, God's people are stepping up and rebuilding it!!
We met Pat Young, the church caretaker, super nice man! We also met several volunteers there who welcomed us with Gods love, smiles, and warm chili. Can't wait to visit again and see this beautiful place rebuilt! Should be ready 1/1/16.
Seeing America's smallest, biggest, best, worst, weirdest, etc, should be a no brainer for all roadtrippers so be sure to mark this one on your map (correction: app). Plus, you get to ring the cool bell beside the church.. try resisting that temptation!
Easy to find (lights and security cameras at night)! Super cute church you can even walk inside & sign the guest book! Watch out for mosquitos though!
We visited this little roadside wonder both before some jackwagon burned it down, and now again since it has been rebuilt in all its miniscule glory. This place is exactly what you thought it was when you clicked on it... A tiny church, with a tiny bell you can ring, in a beautiful setting, only a mile from the interstate. If you dont stop here then you must not love the fat little baby Jesus!
Definitely worth the stop! Very cute and cool. Down I95 south, get off at exit 67. Make your first left. Go under I95 and travel 3/4 of a mile. See sign on left.
Quick, cute and nestled amongst some gorgeous Southern Live Oaks.
So adorable. We made a ten minute stop with the kids on our road trip. Wrote a prayer in a prayer book and got a few pics. Worth it!
This was a lovely little stop - and barely a mile off 95. Worth the trip. : )
Easy to get to from I-95. Great place to stretch your legs & take some photos.
