Loved staying here. Kids loved the campground as it had a nice different playground. Sites were comfortable and spacious. Bathrooms, however, were disgusting! Showers look like they have never been cleaned and my boys would not even use the toilets. Probably the worst campground bathroom that we have ever experienced. Luckily, we had full hookup and a nice shower in the rv.

Great base camp for all the Black Hills sightseeing. 1 mile out of Custer, yet feels super country. Tons of stars at night! Deer and turkeys right in the campground. Fenced in dog park which isn't something I've seen at other campgrounds. Super simple and quiet campground. Well maintained. Veteran owned and operated. Will definitely visit again.

We stayed here May 7-10th 2015. We had only planned on staying for a couple of nights, but a huge snow storm came through, and we ended up staying for 4. We chose this campground becouse of its close proximity to Sylvan Lake, Custer State Park, and Jewel and Wind Cave. We arrived early in the camping season and were fortunate to have a large section of the campground all to ourselves.

The campground is wooded, and the sites are a good size, easily accessible for bigger rigs. While it was not crowded when we visited, I could see it lacking privacy if it became busy. One end of the campground backs up a main road, which did not bother us, but during a busier season it may be more noisy.

The campground owner was very kind and attentive to our needs during our stay. He made sure our area was plowed and that we were able get our rig out when we wanted to leave.

The download speed was 30 MBS, if you are like us and work from the road :)

A nice campground in the pine trees that is family run. Super friendly and helpful staff. They assist you with getting your rig into you site, as some of the are a little tight with the trees and all. The site are well space and ours (#18) had a slight uphill grade to it. Though our particular site backed the road, traffic was at a minimal and we slept sound with windows open. I think there are only two sites that actually back the road.

All the RV sites are full hook-ups (water, sewer & electric 30/50) most of the sites are close to level, but some leveling will be required. They have pull-through (saw a 77' rig + trailer in one) and back-in sites. The Wi-Fi is so-so. You can get connected, but the bandwidth is on the weak side. They do have free cable TV (70+ channels) (must turn off antenna booster to work), so plan accordingly. All sites have picnic tables.

Laundry was great, with two separate locations within the campground to do laundry ($2.00 a load to wash and .25 for eight minutes on the dryers). . We saw several examples of the staff hopping right on to repairs, which probably explains why it is so well maintained.

Bathrooms, shower rooms ((6 in our area of the park) and laundry were very clean and cleaned everyday from 1-3pm. Office hours are from 8am to 8pm. They sell ice and propane onsite, plus have some small sundries in the office. The will also sell you a coax cable for your TV if you did not bring one.

They also rent out teepee's (site 17 right next to us was one) and cabins. They also have a large (100 yards X 50 yards) children's play area with a large make-believe fort.

Campground is very convenient to Crazy Horse Memorial (8 miles), Mt. Rushmore (20+/- miles), Custer State Park (7 miles) Jewel Caves (15 miles & a must do) and the town of Custer 1 mile away. There is also a hospital 1/2 mile from the campground.

This is a really cute family-owned campground. The staff is friendly and helpful. They shared a lot of good information about the area with us. They had had a lot of rain, so the green space and dog run were very soggy. We were disappointed that they charged an extra $5 for our son.

This location may be good or bad depending on what you're looking for and your comfort level in maneuvering your rig. It's extremely wooded, and the map can be a little deceiving in terms of the scale. The site we are in didn't look very large on paper, but the host assured us we could get in. He was right, although backing in would have been much more difficult had some of my neighbors already been here. The streets also require care, as there are several curves that can be tricking with vehicles along the road. Everything is dirt/gravel, but they seem to take care of them (saw a tractor this morning pulling a grater to keep things level). There are several pull through sites, but even those could be difficult with a long rig and a full neighborhood. Some of the sites I've seen also have some steep changes in incline. Our neighbor had to remove his ball hitch from the back of the truck, as he couldn't get the ball to detach from his trailer given the incline that started halfway down his pull-through site. Needless to say, satellite isn't likely to work given the trees (didn't even try), but their cable worked well, and the electrical/water hookups were good. We have AT&T phones, which were useless for data. The Verizon jetpack seemed to work well. The camp hosts have been very pleasant, and despite the above, we would definitely consider staying here again, as long as we paid even more attention to exactly which site we were getting.

We love this campground: we just finished our second stay here, which lasted just over five weeks. It’s a private campground with a state campground feel. You get the amenities of full-hookups, on-site propane, a laundry room, and a small camp store while being surrounded by tall pine trees and treated to glimpses of deer and wild turkeys.

It’s a great base camp for exploring the Black Hills area. Sylvan Lake and Needles Highway are just 10 minutes up the road; drive the opposite way and you can reach the town of Custer (with its shops and restaurants) in 5 minutes. The southwest entrance to Custer State Park is also about 10 minutes away.

There’s a Verizon cell tower less than a mile away, so we had incredible bandwidth: we could get as much as 200 Mbps down and 50 Mbps up with our Verizon Jetpack hotspot and a MIMI antenna. Our AT&T signal on the other hand was fairly weak.

The campground is kid and dog-friendly: the kids have a small playground and a simulated Old West fort to play in, while dogs have a small dog park to run off-leash in and plenty of trees and grassy areas.

Most of the RV sites are back-in sites, and because of the trees some of them can be tricky to get into, but if you get stuck you can ask the campground staff for help and they’ll get you into your site. There is some road noise during the day, especially if your site is near the road that goes by the campground, but it’s quiet at night.

Excellent Verizon signal (80 dn/16up). AT&T (2dn/8up) Park WiFi (10 dn/1 up) WiFi with booster (22dn/6up) Camp is well cared for and bathrooms are cleaned every day. Staff is helpful and friendly. Laundry is expensive. No pool or tennis courts, but close to all the black hills have to offer. Children seem to really like the playground

Our time at Fort Welikit was very comfortable. We got site #44 (back-in W&E) and though the site is sort of on a tiny hill, we loved the view behind it of meadows and trees. The bathrooms are private rooms with a shower and toilet in each, which was really great! The laundry room was also easy to access and use, with an additional laundry room with bigger machines for large loads. We were also able to fill our propane tanks here. For the last two days of our stay we were moved into site #35 (pull-through, full hookups), which was huge and also lovely. Our price reflects the site #44 rate with a Good Sam discount

The campground is super close to the town of Custer, as well as Custer State Park (it's on the road to Needles Highway and Sylvan Lake). Got both Verizon and AT&T no problem.

While sitrs are close together, as they are in most RV Parks, at least there are a lot of trees, so most sites have at least some shade. Nice play area for kids, nice dog area. Sites are fairly level. Staff very nice. Overall quiet except for some road noise for eyes on that side.

Although it says they have WiFi, I could not connect to it the entire 5 days of my stay. A call to confirm the password brought no response.

Also, garbage bins were almost full when I arrived and were not emptied during my stay. Luckily I was not near garbage bins, sites that are would have smelt them. It wasn’t over Labor Fay weekend, so perhaps there was a delay.

Bathrooms were clean, if a little run down. There were several bathrooms each with toilet, sink, shower and small hot water heater, so no chance of running out of hot water. Water pressure could have been a bit better, but overall adequate. Laundry looked clean but machines small so I just went to local laundromat.
