Those that adventurous and depending on the level of river you can park out on the gravel bar. Swimming, tubing, fishing, it's a wonderful spot.
To top it off Verizon rocked.

It is a nice boondocking spot but you pass a lot of questionable old junk on the way and it felt too close to a residential area for my comfort. In a pinch it’d be fine but as it was early in the evening, I looked for a more open-feeling spot.

There’s 3 picnic tables, but lots of open space to camp in fields next to the river. Pretty quiet and easy to access from I-94. Not a lot of shade available. Would highly recommend downloading Montana’s guide to fishing access sites, as spots like this are scattered all over the state and the guide provides a lot of detailed info.

Just passing through for the night. Great spot. Nice thunderstorm blew through. Not a great destination spot. Meadow seemed mowed, grass was taller by fence at edge of river.

First, I need to correct the 2016 review, in that the Railroad Track Crossing is the smoothest part of the road in, after you leave the pavement. The track-crossing has been updated. It is clean, new, and smooth.
Railroad tracks aside.
The abandoned farmhouse on the way in did not look very abandoned this evening. We drove through there about 20-minutes ago, and it looks like someone has moved in near the abandoned house and set up housekeeping in an old RV.
You have to drive "about" another 1/4 mile past that old farm house before getting to the GPS camping coordinates. When my wife and I arrived, we found 3 other RV's already set up. But, the entire visible population was three separate guys, who looked to be camping. each on their own. Each guy was nursing a beer. And, one of those guys seemed oblivious to the fact that his pants were riding about 5-inches lower than they should have been. Really, no one wants to see that. And, after you've seen it, you can't un-see it.
So, my wife and it moved on to "The Fort at 49" about 15-miles further up the highway. The "Fort" charges $40 for a full-hookup in a moderately flat field. The "Fort" looks to be a family run business that puts up a few RV's for the night and operates a family owned business on-site.
I could easily argue that the "Fort" is a bit over-priced for what you get. But everyone here at the "Fort" wears their pants in an appropriately modest fashion.

This looks sketch at first as you have to drive practically through the yards of some abandoned houses to get back here. But once you do, it is a nice place.
There were quite a few people here, but there were still more spaces left even on a Friday night.
There is a lot of traffic here on the weekends as people bring their boats to put in here.

Other than the six or seven trains that passed by this is a nice spot right on the Yellowstone River. Also, cattle broke through the fencing but were not a problem. Relatively flat on dirt and grass. There is a latrine at the west end and also a short trail beyond to listen to birds. I think that is where I got the ticks

This is a nice spot, a little bumpy coming in but stick with it and it's worth it. We parked along the river bank and it was a great view! Some boats and trains but nothing that bothered us.
