“featuring an arch salvaged from the old Columbus Union Train Station”
McFerson Commons (Park) is also known to many as "Arch Park." This is because the focal point of the park is the entry arch from the Old Union Train Station. This arch was the main portal to the train station that once stood along High St. (Current location of the Columbus Converntion Center.) The Union Train Station was originally designed by Daniel Burnham & Co. in 1893, however this entire train station was demolished in the 1970's, with the exception of this arch which is now seen at the the McFerson Commons Park. This park overlooks Nationwide Arena to the north, and the new North Bank Park to the South. The large open lawn is commonly used for kickball, flag football, and other special events such as the Columbus Jazz & Ribfest. McFerson Commons is dedicated to Dimon R. McFerson, the former chairman and CEO of Nationwide Insurance, who served from 1992-2000.
