Longwood Park Campground

An well-maintained ACOE park along the shore of Buggs Island Lake. We stayed here in late October as the park was getting ready to close for the season and it was mostly empty. There is a day use area with picnic shelters, playground, and a roped-off swimming area. There are several campground loops spread along the shoreline. Sites were mostly level and raked and most were spacious. Even the non-shoreline sites in our loop had lake views and all sites had full or partial shade. All sites had a fire pits with grills, and poles with lantern hooks. Sites are water and electric only. There is a dump station.

There's a boat ramp adjacent to the campground and there is trailer parking inside the campground if you need it. People with boats in the water anchored or tied-off their boats at their campsite. Waterfront sites on hillsides have nice timber and gravel steps leading down to the water.

There are large centralized bathhouses and there's at least one pit toilet on every loop. We did not check out the bathhouse, but peeked in a pit toilet which was clean and well-supplied.

It's just a short drive to nearby Clarksville for shopping and restaurants. There's a fairly new (in 2016) Food Lion grocery store, some cute local shops, and other small-town fare.

Cell coverage was spotty around the campground. Our Verizon showed 4G coverage but we needed the booster to get a good enough signal to work. AT&T was not usable at our site but appeared decent in other parts of the park.

This is a very nice COA campground that could earn a 4 star rating if they just collect trash or put cans more conveniently located throughout the camp grounds. The only trash collection point is at the entrance to the park which is WAY too far to walk. Breaking camp is an unreasonable option which judging from the amount of trash thrown into the woods throughout the park many have chosen to litter rather than go clear to the entrance. The rest rooms were clean and we'll stocked, exhaust fans would help in the showers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This campground is a fisherman's paradise.

The price we paid reflects a 50% discount using our American the Beautiful pass for a site with electricity and water. Nice shaded sites, not too close together, and many on the lake or with lake view. Bathhouse was just okay. No sites with full hookup. Later checkout time is a plus.

Stayed here in June 2020. This Corp of Engineers campground was just opening, we were there the first day they re-opened due to Covid-19. Stayed in the northern most loop, lakeside. Most of the sites were very large and very level. Our loop had lakeside sites with water and 50A power. Site 58 is the one to get if possible. Best open view of the lake on this small loop. It appears most of the lakefront sites on other loops are primitive with no water or electric at the site. But they are beautiful lake views, many right on the water's edge.

We were here after some epic floods, and the lake was still 7.5' above full pond (water levels controlled by dam, but the downstream Lake Gaston was also full so it was slow to bring down Kerr Lake) All of the waterfront sites on the other loops were flooded, and some were completely under water.

Only negative was that the bathhouse was quite a walk and they do not have dumpsters at each loop, only at the entrance of the park. No biggies either way. Good Verizon (2-3 bars), friend's ATT nothing.

Not a lot of activities (there is a beach but it was flooded). Most campers had boats and were fishing the lake. Very much a fisherman's campground. They were tying their boats right up to their site.

We love Kerr Lake and Longwood is one of our favorite parks because it is so wooded and quiet. Site 30 is our favorite, but Site 29 is just as nice...both are at the end of a private cove. Site 58 is also nice because it has a wonder view of the lake and is slightly elevated from the water, although a relatively easy walk down to the water. The bath houses are average for a public campground with several shower stalls. TIP: if you book during the hottest week of the summer, the water in the cove could be very warm (bath water is an understatement), so site 58 would probably be best as there's more air and water movement from the main channel coming in there. Sites 29 & 30 are in a small cove with little air/water movement during the day, but that's an advantage when thunderstorms come in because you're more protected from wind. AT&T LTE coverage is only 1 bar at site 30, but we had a cell booster which helped a little, but we didn't miss it much while on vacation...text messages came through fine.

This campground was very peaceful with awesome lakefront sites! We were in site 42 which was a dry site (no electric or water). There was a water spigot between our site and the next which was very convenient. There was also enough sun shining on the site to get our portable solar panels in full sun nearly all day. The Verizon signal was good enough to work, stream, and upload videos. We would absolutely stay here again!

This was our first stop on our 5 week trip and remained one of our favs. We booked site 30 but the campground was really empty so we moved to give the family on 29 more room. Site 42 was great. Wide enough to allow us to park diagonally with our class B. Showers were a bit oddly set up but no problem with hot water.

We only had 1 night here but we will definitely be back and stay longer.

Stayed here for a week to try out our boondocking setup. Spacious sites, most have water views and/or water access. This is a great boating, kayaking and fishing lake. We loved our site and spots on the water side of the middle loop are great with clear lake views. If you like peace and quiet, check it out.

We had a wonderful camping experience here mid-week in early September. Not many other campers so everything was quiet. Sites are quite level and gravel.

This is a basic campground.
Hookups are only available at a few spots.

Some of the spots are more narrow than others so you would be sitting behind your rig.

Our spot was ok. We backed in a little sideways and could access our whole side of our van for dinner.

Restrooms were clean.

Dump station was well maintained but watch out for the water pressure on the flush water. It’s at level 9000.

Our site was nice and level. Lake was close by (probably could have walked down to it if I had the nerve to go through bushes).

We did have a few massive horse flys come through. Or maybe deer flys. None were aggressive towards us, but we ended up putting the dog inside just in case they were out to bite.

Overall the sites aren’t crazy private, but they are split off from each other. My only complaint was that a trailer across the way had bright blue lights on all night.
