“The finest in esoteric texts”
Occult Co. is a historic occult business based in and operated out of Chicago, IL. For years, we’ve made it our mission to immerse ourselves in the study and practical applications of metaphysics and occult practices. Our specialty lies in Rare / Antique Artifacts (inc. books, tribal fetishes, relics, occult art, ancient rites, and living stones). Initially, we limited our skills and sales to active and renowned spiritualists, occultists and shamans. However, it wasn’t long before the news of our high quality selection spread. As more and more collectors and a growing number of “ordinary” lay people began contacting us, we soon decided to make our treasures available to ANYONE with a driving desire to boost and encourage their spiritual growth. Since then, our business has experienced growth and expansion so that our rare magicio-sacred items are now available worldwide. Regardless of where you live – whether surrounded by urban sprawl or secluded in the depths of remote locales – you now have access to the supernatural potential of our high quality magickal items, some of which until now, have been unavailable anywhere in the United States. In 1918 history was made as D.G. Nelson first opened the store dedicated to the mysteries of life that still actively purveys the finest in esoteric texts and supplies. Chicago’s own Occult Bookstore is the oldest spirit shop in the world and was established to serve as a mystical resource and spiritual institution. The word ‘Occult’ means hidden or beyond the realm of human comprehension, and the first storefront at 611 N. State St. was frequented by many of the personalities of the occult world. Now, 90+ years since first opening, The Occult Bookstore remains dedicated to the spiritual community with a new storefront at 1164 N. Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Ashland and Division in Chicago, and with our soon to be launched online store, we are at your disposal to provide you with all of your magickal needs. Every person on the Occult Bookstore staff is a skilled and experienced practitioner on the path of spirituality. We are a pan-traditional team focused on preserving the wisdom of the masters and keeping the knowledge of the ancient mysteries intact, including initiatory experience in: Angelic Magic, Astral Realms and Lucid Dreaming, Channeling, Mediumship, Fey and Fairy Magic, Sabbatic Witchcraft, Pagan Practices and Crafting Traditions, Solomonic Magick, Enochican Magick, Hermetisim, Kabbalistic Mysteries, Alchemical Magick, Germanic Occultism, Ancient Sumerian Rites and Practices, African Diaspora Traditions and Practices, Native American Tribal Spiritual Practices, Tantra, Zen Buddhism, Reiki, Pranic Healing and the Divinational Arts of Tarot, Runes, Pendulum, Astrology and Palmistry.
If you're into weird, esoteric books, you're going to love this place. It's not in it's same exact location, but it's the oldest occult bookstore in not just the state, but the country. They have more than books too, so even if you aren't into strange books about magic, it's worth a stop to actually see a place that actually stocks magical ingredients like animal parts and wands.
To echo what Dana said, they have a crazy back room where all the good stuff is. They do weekly meetup nights as well where you can meet others who are into the same stuff.
This is one of my favorite bookstores in the city. Lots of things to see, read, and of course, buy. I have honestly never left this place without lightening my wallet, so if you're into weird, obscure, new age, and occult books be prepared because you're going to want to buy everything.
Also, if you get the chance, ask the staff to see the behind the curtain. That's where they keep the really rare stuff!
It was a stop if you're in the area and you've got some time. The owner is super nice.
