“Where it all begins”
All across Illinois, Historic Route 66 is very well marked. Historic Route 66 begins at its eastern terminus, Lake Shore Drive (US 41) and Jackson Blvd.
This sign is closer to the art institute. There is another one (newer) a couple of blocks down- near Adams & State. If you go to the sign, you might as well go up by the lions- I've read that's where it really starts!
A must when traveling Route 66. Not a very scenic spot in the city but it's a 3 minute photo op. Chicago should really take advantage of this and give tourists a better attraction.
It all starts here
Lucked out on street parking for this one, even with the Lolipalooza crowd that weekend. Had to have the picture for our roadtrip 😊
I did want to see the sign since we were driving the route down to St Louis but if you are not downtown anyway I would skip it. It is right by the Millennium Park and the Art Museum and the lake but that also means there is crazy traffic. You can of course bring your dog since it is non the sidewalk.
Historical place. Not hard to find. Walking distans from the been. Make sure you go to the right sign.
As an avid roadtripper, I can appreciate the significance of this sign... Not a top-spot in Chicago but awesome none the less and a great photo-op
