“whiskey, tequila, cocktail and beer-focused venue”
BIG STAR is a whiskey, tequila, cocktail and beer-focused venue located in the heart of Wicker Park, Chicago. Executive Chef Paul Kahan and Chef de Craig Svozil have crafted an eclectic menu inspired by Mexican street food in a space reminiscent of a California honky tonk. The food, liquor and cocktail programs change continuously to complement the seasons, and always features six beers on tap, and an ever-growing selection of our house-selected single barrel bourbons and whiskeys, picked by staff members at distilleries in Kentucky. Big Star, how I miss you. This place is always ridiculously crowded so be prepared to either show up early or else wait in line (not fun in the dead of January), but it's so worth it. The tacos are both adventurous and delicious (for the less foodie-inclined, get the taco that comes in a Fritos bag), and their margaritas are heavenly. The bartenders are a holdover from Wicker Park's initial stages of gentrification (hipster, but friendly considering how packed it gets), and the clientele definitely skews towards yuppy, but oh my god just writing this review is making me miss Chicago and its incredible places like Big Star.
Expertly made Margaritas, Micheladas and guacamole: This casual and perpetually bustling Wicker Park place serves them all day and well into the night.
The taco al pastor ($3) with marinated, spit-roasted pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, grilled onion and cilantro pairs well with a dulce de leche milkshake ($4) at Paul Kahan's Tex-Mex haven.
If you are not a huge fan of Mexican taco and you think that it's the right time that you try one, then this is the perfect place for you to try it out. They sell the best tacos around the corner and you will surely love it!
