State-of-the-art museum of science & invention, with the world's largest Tyrannosaurus Rex. The Field Museum is an educational institution concerned with the diversity and relationships in nature and among cultures. It provides collection-based research and learning for greater public understanding and appreciation of the world in which we live. Its collections, public learning programs, and research are inseparably linked to serve a diverse public of varied ages, backgrounds and knowledge. The Field Museum was incorporated in the State of Illinois on September 16, 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago with its purpose the "accumulation and dissemination of knowledge, and the preservation and exhibition of objects illustrating art, archaeology, science and history." In 1905, the Museum's name was changed to Field Museum of Natural History to honor the Museum's first major benefactor, Marshall Field, and to better reflect its focus on the natural sciences. In 1921 the Museum moved from its original location in Jackson Park to its present site on Chicago Park District property near downtown where it is part of a lakefront Museum Campus that includes the John G. Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium. These three institutions are regarded as among the finest of their kind in the world and together attract more visits annually than any comparable site in Chicago.

Beautiful museum! A great way to spend the afternoon - more interesting for older children and adults (reading involved to appreciate the displays), though there are some good activity areas for younger children. The Biomechanics exhibit currently on display is absolutely incredible!
This place is awesome! went here on an 8th grade trip to Chicago and still have fond memories of the planetarium and dino bones. If you have a kid or a deep fascination with the natural world you should definitely go.
The Field Museum was totally cool as a kid growing up, and it's still totally cool no matter how old you are. The main attraction is "Sue," a ginormous collection of one T-Rex's fossils, but all of the exhibits are fascinating. And if you don't want to pay admission for the museum, try taking the walk along the lakefront that connects the Field Museum to either the Planetarium or the Shedd Aquarium.

Great Museum, I would have actually given 5 stars but I took a way a star because of the price. We were lucky that the Jurassic World exhibit was there when we were. That piece itself was probably worth the price of admission. We have 3 teens who all really liked the Museum.
