“one of the largest fountains in the world”
Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain, one of the largest in the world, is located at Columbus Drive (301 East) and Congress Parkway in Grant Park and runs from 8 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, typically from April to mid-October, depending on weather. Times are subject to change when large events take place in or around Grant Park. While in operation, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain produces a major water display and the center jet shoots 150 feet into the air. The initial major display begins at 9:00 a.m. and thereafter, is every hour on the hour. Beginning at dusk, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain's major water display is accompanied by a major light and music display. The final display of the evening begins at 10:35 p.m. The Fountain's water capacity is 1.5 million gallons. Depending on wind conditions, major displays use approximately 14,100 gallons of water per minute conveyed through 134 jets. Water is re-circulated from the base pool after the basins are filled and not drawn from the outside except to replace losses from wind and evaporation.
This is personally one of my favourite places in chicago! It isn't too busy but is a really cool fountain with a great view of the cityscape behind it!
It is worth it to stay around for the big water fountain show! Also at night there are some lights that come on and it looks even better!
P.S. Its not too far from the Cloud gate (bean) so you can walk to it from there!
Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain stands as a landmark within the city of Chicago. It is one the biggest and impressing fountains that are built during the ages.
Whether you are touring the city of Chicago, or just want to escape for a few hours, just go there and enjoy the beautiful sunset behind the city's skyline and listen to the sounds of water relaxing you.
If you love colors then you should go at night and see the fountain playing with the colors and the rhythm of the music playing.
One my my favorite fountains in Chicago! It's right by the lake so it's a great place to hang out and cool off.
This is a beautiful place to stop when you're touring the city. Pack a sandwich and enjoy the view.
An iconic Chicago monument, Buckingham fountain is beautiful in and of itself but the views of the city and the lake make it an incredible Chicago treasure.
This is the fountain from the intro to the show "Married With Children" ... that is all.
Very pretty. I was glad we got to see it on my daughters fieldtrip to Chicago. Great stop for a photo op.
One of the most romantic spots for the couples in Chicago.
