“built in 1855”
The rear section of the house was built in 1855 with the front (Georgian) section added in 1863. The house was built by noted agriculturalist Matthew T. Scott who laid out Chenoa in 1854. His wife Julia Green Scott was one of the founders of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The house was the site of the marriage of Adlai Stevenson I and Letitia Green, sister to Julia. Their first child was also born there in 1868. The house was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Open Sunday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
