Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on November 21, 2021Campground was very easy to find, about 3 miles off interstate. There are a variety of different campsites types available. We choose a site with 30amp and water only, although full hookup sites were available. We prefer no trees, staff worked with us to make that happen. Our site was a very nice size. There were trees around to make it more than an RV “parking lot”, but not so many that satellite was impossible. They have sites that easily handle big rigs. There was plenty of room in our site for the truck, 5th wheel and jeep. Well maintained roads through the campground.
Each site had a picnic table. They seemed to offer family activities (they were planning for a hayride). Good Verizon coverage. We have very good DirecTV satellite—but the manager made sure we knew it might not be a good signal.
Because this campground didn’t have great reviews, we were hesitant to visit this park. We were pleasantly surprised. We will absolutely plan to stay here when we are in the area.

This is a nice little park, out in the country, with lots of trees. We've stayed here before (only park near relatives in Kankakee). The pool is clean, the trees are shady and the folks at the front desk could not be nicer.
They've recently expanded and have a large area in the back with pull thru sites and 50 amps. The water lines are heated, back there, and can accommodate winter visitors (a lot of wind farm workers and seasonal trades people stay here). It's about 20 minutes into Kankakee.

This KOA is off the beaten path. Not near a major roadway so it was very quiet and pleasant. We took one of the last pull through spaces available. There was plenty of space as it for our 36 foot motorhome. We chose the very center of that spot were able to park our Jeep in the front or back of our rig as we liked.
We arrived in the evening and they were doing hayrides around the campground for the kids.
The area is pretty, staff friendly, and campground clean. I would give it more stars if it wasn’t for the sulphur in the water. It is so heavy it smells like you are showering in sewage. We have a filter attached to our water line, and an onboard filtering system and it still smelled terrible. I couldn’t drink it, cook with it, or clean with it. I couldn’t do it again.
The WiFi was okay during the day, but nonexistent at night. We had 2-3 bars on Verizon.
The 3 stars are only for the location and quiet atmosphere.

The campsite was quaint and quiet. The staff was kind and helpful. The facility was pretty run down. The pool looks like it’s been closed for a while. The roads were made of broken chunks of asphalt vs the more traditional gravel. The real kicker was the water. I read one of the other reviews here that said the water was bad, but I had no idea. It’s terrible. It is clearly well water, but if you pay attention on your way into the camp, it’s located next to a significant landfill. The water smelled like sewage.

It was pretty meh. Had electric and water hook ups, site was level. However the sites were close together, not a lot of privacy was afforded. Nothing spectacular about the grounds or the surrounding town that we saw. Was not impressed and I hate feeling claustraphobic. I chose this lifestyle to get away from people.

The Kankakee KOA is a small traditional campground with an amazing staff. The prices are a bit high for the area and the sites are limited but honestly it’s one of the best in the area so we continue to visit. If you need anything at all you can text their on call staff and they are amazing.

We have been here two times in the past 2 weeks going east and coming home. The staff was very helpful and courteous even after they just finishing up with a holiday weekend. On our second stop we were placed in a site that was a little too close to our neighbors and when I asked for another spot they took care of it without compliant or making me feel like I was being a pain. I would recommend this KOA to all.

Kankakee South KOA is generally a good but older campground. Like most KOAs, it’s staffed by very friendly and helpful people. Unfortunately, it’s on very, very sandy ground that leads to literally hundreds of ant mounds in your site. Good news is they’re not fire ants. Bad news, these little insects constantly found their way into our RV. If you camp here, bring pesticide.

One of the nicest KOAs we have stayed in. The sites are reasonable in size and surrounded by corn fields. Close enough to Kankakee for city amenities but VERY quiet
